Royal Jordanian, the Jordan-based airline and a oneworld alliance member, launched a status match promotion last year that could be useful to those trying to transition out from British Airways owing to the drastic changes in the carrier’s loyalty programme coming in April 2025. They have also brought back the ability to get Sapphire status using your hotel loyalty status for a limited time.
Royal Jordanian offering (up to) Gold Sparrow Status to various airlines and some hotel elites
Royal Jordanian’s Status Match offer has been ongoing for a while. The airline is offering an upgrade to the programme’s Silver and Golden Tiers, which provide the following benefits on the oneworld alliance. The status granted will be valid for 12 months without any requirements to fly on the airline. So, it is unconditional in that sense.
What are the benefits of getting Royal Jordanian status, you ask?
Eligible members receive all benefits except upgrade vouchers – these are only available once the status is qualified.
- Royal Club Gold Sparrow (equivalent to oneworld Sapphire) will get you access to Business Class Check-in counters at the airport, access to preferred seating on the planes, access to business class lounges along with a +1, Priority Boarding and Extra Baggage Allowance when flying oneworld member airlines.
- Royal Club Silver Jay (equivalent to oneworld Ruby) tier allows members to use business class priority check-in and access to preferred seating.
It might make sense to match into this status if you travel with oneworld a lot and in economy, as it will allow you to get lounge access and priority services, including in the USA. So, it will be cheaper than buying US lounge passes as well.
What Airlines’ Status will be matched?
Royal Jordanian is offering a status match to the following airline status.
Through January 22, 2025, the airline is also offering a Gold Status Match to the following hotel status.
- Accor (Platinum or higher)
- Hilton (Diamond)
- Hyatt (Globalist)
- IHG (Diamond or higher)
- Marriott (Platinum or higher)
How to apply for the status match?
Royal Jordanian has partnered with Status Match Co to offer the status match. You must head to this website to sign up for the status match. The Royal Jordanian Status Match is paid, so it comes with a fee of USD 49 for the Silver Tier Status Match and USD 149 for the Gold Tier Status Match. If you match from a Hotel status, it costs you USD 199 to match the Gold Tier Status from RJ. Once you are accepted, it unlocks twelve months of those tier benefits.
Only residents from the following countries qualify for the status match: Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Netherlands, Oman, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey, UAE and the UK.
Bottomline
Royal Jordanian is offering a status match up to the Gold Status of their Royal Club programme, even for hotel elites, for a short while. The airline’s frequent flyer programme offers a suite of perks; for USD 49/149/199, you can get the status for twelve months. For instance, this will be cheaper than buying lounge passes in the US.
What do you think of the Status Match opportunity, and are you signing up?
