Riyadh Air unveils gorgeous livery

In March, the new startup airline in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh Air, was announced after being referred to as RIA for a long while. The airline placed an order for up to 72 Boeing 787-9 aircraft (including 39 firm orders). Now, they have more details to share.

Riyadh Air unveils the first of its two livery designs.

Riyadh Air, which seems to be making fast progress towards its launch, today unveiled the first of its two livery designs. The airline refers to it as “a perfect blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless elegance”. The reveal was made on a 787-9, which was ordered by the airline earlier in the year.

Riyadh Air has gone away from the drab white livery concept (which, incidentally, costs less fuel to fly and reflects heat) to a more colourful take. The carrier will have a purple/lilac livery, with the logo flowing at the back on the tail and the bold font name on the fuselage.

Of course, the other airlines are in the business of trying to optimise costs, but as a startup from the middle-east, flamboyance will also take precedence as the airline goes through the stage of building a brand that can become aspirational enough for the rest of the world to book a trip with them.

Also, who knows if this livery will have an inverse version which is easier to maintain and more widespread?

Bottom line

Riyadh Air has unveiled its livery on a Boeing 787-9, fresh out of the paint shop. It is classy and stands out. The airline looks like it will take off next year, and I sure do hope we get to see what is inside before the first flight.

What do you think of Riyadh Air’s livery?
