Sometimes, you look at a fantastic hotel redemption for that quick weekend getaway but need more points. Many of us would buy a block of points to hit our goals. Hilton Honors members can usually buy up to 80,000 points each calendar year. This means you can buy 80K points and receive 160K points. However, members can buy up to 240,000 points for this promotion and get 480,000 points in their accounts.

While checking out, you’ll see that the bonus has been added. Ultimately, each point comes to USD 0.005 or INR 0.42 equivalent.

Just look at the Conrad Maldives, a great island property and a hot favourite for Indian tourists who want to vacation in the Maldives.

Conrad Maldives

It usually retails at USD 1290 (+233 taxes and service charges) but could be yours for 120K points per night, which is USD 600, or sixty per cent off. Read a review of the Conrad Maldives here.

Take, for example, the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, the newer Hilton hotel in the Maldives. The going rate is about USD 2000 (plus USD 600 per night as taxes and service charges), or you can get it for USD 750 when you buy points and use 150,000 points per night.

Want to stay a few more nights? Pick up a package or two using your friend’s or spouse’s account & pool your points since Hilton allows pooling points from nine accounts free of cost (you don’t even have to be family!). And if you are an elite, that suite upgrade may be right around the corner. Also, remember that elites get the 5th night free, so you could potentially have a longer vacation on points if you are an Elite with Hilton Honors. Get the American Express Platinum Card, and Hilton Honors Gold status comes along.

As general guidance, Hilton Honors free night awards start at 10,000 points per night and go up to 120,000 points per night. Waldorf Astoria Maldives is an exception, though. Hilton Honors points do not expire if you have at least some account activity once every 24 months.

Which credit card should you buy Hilton Honors points with?

Typically, these point purchases are processed through Points.com and not directly by the hotel or airline. However, you will almost always pay in USD/EUR/GBP, not INR. So, the best cards to earn a bonus are Axis Olympus, Axis Reserve or American Express Platinum Charge Card, as these cards offer an international spending bonus. Beyond these, look at any card that provides a reduced foreign exchange spend conversion or one where you want to meet minimum spend requirements.

Bottomline

Hilton Honors regularly offers promotions offering anywhere between 60% to 80% bonus points on purchases. A 100% bonus does not come often. This offer may be worth considering if you plan to stock up on Hilton Honors points for your next vacation.

  1. Hi
I am planning Singapore trip in September end for 9 nights.
Could you please advise if i should purchase points in block?
    Marriott hotels are too expensive.
I have Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status, Hilton Gold Status and Accor All Silver status

  2. Hey Ajay – aren’t these offers coming out too frequently from Hilton? I was not so much into this pre-pandemic, so not sure what the frequency of such offers was then.

However, should we read ‘something’ into it? Not sure what, but found it strange. Or is devaluation possible next year? (with people buying points in ’23 for vacations in ’24 summer & X’mas?)

    • @Sandeep, I don’t think these offers are coming more often. I’m guessing our frequency of covering them went up. I wouldn’t expect devaluation basis this.
