The long-awaited operationalisation of Pune Airport’s new terminal building, inaugurated in March 2024, finally happened on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Here are the details.

Pune gets a new airport terminal.

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, two airlines, Air India and Air India Express, started operating from the new terminal building. Air India (AI858) and Air India Express (I5320) were the first flights to depart from Pune airport’s new terminal. A ceremonial Boarding Pass was handed out to the first passenger for Air India checking in from the new Terminal Building.

The new terminal covers an expansive 52,000 square metres and can accommodate up to 9 million passengers annually. That space is more than double that of the current terminal building, which spans 22,000 square metres and handles 7 million passengers annually. The terminal has ten aerobridges, five baggage carousels, 34 counters, and 25 self-check-in stations. After long last, the transition would mean that customers won’t have to wait in a queue to get their bags scanned before check-in.

The rest of the airlines will transition to the new terminal soon. IndiGo is supposed to transition to the new building soon, but the date has not yet been specified. The airport has Akasa, Alliance Air, Fly91, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Star Air and Vistara, which operate but have not yet shifted to the new terminal building.

The Pune Airport will have a bus at the AeroMall (the old terminal area) to bring customers to the new building in case they arrive at the wrong terminal.
