Noida International Airport delays launch to April 2025

The Noida International Airport (DXN), the second airport for the Delhi NCR region located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, to be owned and operated by Zurich Airports, has now delayed the launch of the first phase of the airport to 2025.

Noida Airport delays its operational launch to April 2025

While work at Noida Airport has been 78.11%  completed for phase 1, which could handle a capacity of 12 million passengers annually, the airport operator has now announced that due to “supply chain issues”, the airport project, which was to be completed by September 29, 2024, and operationalised within 2024, will now only be operationalised by April 2025.

Noida International Airport awarded Tata Projects Limited the construction contract for this specific project. The work on the runway, the passenger terminal, and the control tower is well advanced, says the airport operator, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL). Recently, concessions for ground handling, the operation of commercial areas, and important maintenance contracts were awarded. In addition, agreements have been signed with several airlines for flight connections from Noida International Airport The airport shared the progress in construction activity via a drone footage video.

The delay is due to the slow implementation of the terminal building, which people in the know believe is due to the inability to procure a specific grade of steel on the international market. The UP Government, which is handling the project through their special purpose vehicle, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), did not know of the delay before YIAPL announced it and plans to implement a penalty for the delay in the operationalisation of the new airport after allowing it to explain itself, said local media.

Bottomline

Noida International Airport will see a delay in its operationalisation, which was earlier expected by December 2024. The airport operator states that the completion of some key project milestones has been delayed, so the operationalisation will be delayed until April 2025.
