Noida International Airport (DXN) gets closer to launch; IndiGo conducts validation flight

Noida International Airport, which bears the code DXN and has been under construction since 2021, is coming close to completion. It is the second airport in the Delhi NCR region.

Noida Airport completes the Validation Flight.

Noida International Airport achieved a significant milestone by completing its validation flight on December 9, 2024. This flight is a vital element of the aerodrome licensing process.

IndiGo, the airport’s launch carrier, conducted the flight using its A320neo aircraft, registered as VT-IFI. The airline verified the airport’s approach procedures and confirmed the accuracy and functionality of its navigational aids and air traffic control systems.

This step demonstrates NIA’s adherence to safety and operational standards required for commercial operations. Following the validation flight, NIA will finalise the necessary documentation for aerodrome certification and submit it to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

This milestone builds upon the successful October calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems by the Airports Authority of India, supported by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and successful Simulator trials of the RNP (Required Navigation Performance) procedures.

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, said,

The successful completion of validation flights at Noida International Airport is a proud moment for our entire team. This milestone reflects the dedication and meticulous planning that has gone into ensuring the airport is ready for commercial operations. We are gearing up for the airport’s opening and look forward to welcoming passengers to the airport.

Noida’s new airport is expected to go live in the first half of 2025, and IndiGo will be the first airline to operate domestic flights out of DXN.

Bottomline

Jewar, the new airport that will become the second airport in the Delhi NCR Region, is coming closer to launch, with its airport runway now being validated for following the Runway Navigation Protocols. The airport will now file for an aerodrome license and should be ready to start operations in 2025.

  1. actually this is factually incorrect. DXN is the Delhi NCR’s 3rd airport. Other than IGI (DEL), hindon airport (HDO) is currently operational and closer to delhi (22 km from India gate vs almost 80km for dxn).
HDO has had very limited success so would be interesting to see what is planned to make DXN a success even though indigo may ply initially.

    • @Aditya, you are right, but again, that is an airforce conclave with a significant limitation: only regional flights can take off from there. AIX announced and pulled its announcement of operating 737s from there quickly. DXN is a full-blown airport. Give it time and connectivity, and they will come.
