Navi Mumbai Airport to be Operational effective December 25; Akasa Air and IndiGo open ticket sales

The long-awaited opening of one of India’s two major airport projects of the current decade is scheduled for next week. After getting inaugurated on October 8, 2025, December 25, 2025, has been earmarked for the first flight operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA / “NMI”).

Akasa to operate first flight to Navi Mumbai Airport.

Both IndiGo and Navi Mumbai Airport are the launch operators to Navi Mumbai. And both of them will operate flights on December 25, 2025, from Delhi.

Akasa opened ticketing last night for Navi Mumbai International Airport. According to the schedule, on December 25, 2025, the first flight to operate between Delhi and Navi Mumbai will be QP1831 at 5:25 AM.

The image shows a flight schedule table with columns for Flight No., From, To, Departure, Arrival, Frequency, and Effective Date. It lists various flights with their respective details, including routes like DEL to NMI, NMI to DEL, and others. Frequencies vary from daily to specific days, and effective dates range from 25-Dec-25 to 31-Dec-25.
Navi Mumbai Airport will see Akasa operate the following flights:

  • Delhi – Navi Mumbai – Delhi
  • Goa Mopa – Navi Mumbai – Goa Mopa
  • Cochin – Navi Mumbai – Cochin
  • Navi Mumbai – Ahmedabad

Ticketing for these flights is now available on the Akasa website and app, and online travel agencies will soon offer this service at this airport. An official announcement is expected to be made sometime during the day. We will update this article as needed.

IndiGo will also launch flights on December 25, 2025.

While IndiGo has not formally announced a schedule, it is already offering flights to and from NMI. The flights I could spot so far were between Delhi and Navi Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Again, flights are available on IndiGo’s own channels and will hopefully be seen on the other channels soon.

The image is a screenshot of an IndiGo flight booking page. It shows options for selecting a flight from Delhi to Navi Mumbai on December 25th for one passenger. The page displays a flight option departing at 06:40 from Delhi and arriving at 08:45 in Navi Mumbai, with a duration of 2 hours and 5 minutes. The fare starts at ₹7,049, and the flight is marked as "Filling Fast." There are options to choose between "Stretch | Business" and "Economy" seating. The page also includes filters for non-stop flights, low-cost options, and day departures.

The Air India group also recently confirmed it will be a major player at NMIA. Air India Express (their low-cost arm) is earmarked to operate 20 daily departures (40 ATMs) initially, connecting 15 Indian cities.

Bottomline

The date is set. On December 25, 2025, the Navi Mumbai International Airport is scheduled to commence operations. IndiGo and Akasa will be the launch operators, and they have both opened their ticketing. The first flights from both operators will be Delhi to Navi Mumbai. These are all holding schedules, and the ramp-up will be seen in 2026, I believe.

What do you think will be the fascinating destinations that will be covered from Navi Mumbai International Airport?
