A couple of days ago, the Marriott – Starwood merger completed. This is has resulted in the world’s largest hotel company, with over 5700 hotels in their portfolio, spread across 30 brands.
Not just that, it has now become India’s largest hotel company too. Marriott, along with Starwood & Ritz Carlton portfolios, has a total of 79 hotels operating in India now, along with 18000 rooms. They will be opening the W Goa in November 2016, taking the count up to 80 hotels. Another 100 hotels are in the pipeline.
Not just that, out of the 85 million combined membership base of Starwood & Marriott Rewards members, 1.5 million members are based in India.
Taj Hotels, on the other hand has 16,640 rooms across 125 hotels operating under 4 brands.
Bottomline
It hasn’t been a better time to be a business traveller in India. I’ve seen a lot of the Taj hotels growing old, and with the likes of Marriott/Starwood, new contemporary hotel brands are coming into the country, which is great for the travellers and their families.
How do you feel about the merger? Are you still a Taj person, or have you moved to one of the international hotel companies for your business travel?

There might be more properties vs. the Taj group BUT you cannot beat The Taj Mahal Mumbai for CLASS and service and then go to Udaipur!
I have stayed at the Hyatt and At Starwood … In India .No comparison .They just don’t compare!
@Jacques you are talking about the ultra-luxurious properties that are classified as the Palaces. There are about 10 of them. Most of the others are run of the mill
