Marriott Bonvoy reinstates Elite Guarantees with immediate effect

Marriott hotels around the globe are governed by brand standards notified by corporate. These brand standards are not just about the hotel’s look and feel and amenity offerings, but also about how loyal elite members need to be treated while on property. If not dealt with properly, properties are also liable for cash compensation to customers.

Marriott had suspended the brand standards for elite members since March 2020 as hotels grappled with survival, and then, milled about trying to institute cleanliness protocols. At the time, these brand standard delays were only held in abeyance till July 2020, but they kept getting pushed forward, until now.

Guaranteed Bed Types are back

Marriott Bonvoy has now announced that it is reinstating the elite guarantee effective immediately. This means eligible elites are again assured of benefits such as free breakfast, preferred bed-type guarantee and lounge access. When the benefits are not met, hotels are liable to make cash compensation to customers.

Marriott’s announcement to this effect reads,

We are reinstating the elite guarantee compensation which had been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Please note that based on day-to-day business conditions at individual hotels and/or government regulations, properties may offer a breakfast alternative when lounges and restaurants are closed such as grab and go or credit for food and beverage purchases on property. As always, the Lounge and Welcome Gift elite benefit depends on brand and geographic regions.

Bottomline

Marriott has reinstated elite benefit guarantees for members after almost a year. Members should expect to receive their benefits as they used to pre-pandemic, and also be compensated when not complied.
