When it comes to fighting the Coronavirus pandemic, Maharashtra has a no-nonsense approach usually. As news of Omicron surfaces, the Government of India has mandated mandatory testing for those arriving from Europe, parts of Africa and so on. Maharashtra has notified a new set of rules for International arrivals, which requires people to undergo institutional/home quarantine if they arrive at Mumbai Airport, only if they have been to South Africa, Zimbabwe or Botswana in the past 15 days. However, the rules have also changed for domestic arrivals here on, essentially, going back to the rules which were there till a few days ago.
Maharashtra had done away with the requirement for an RT-PCR negative report for those fully vaccinated and arriving in the state a few months ago. In the wake of Omicron, this had changed and now has changed again.
Maharashtra requires RT-PCR negative reports for domestic arrivals only if full vaccination is not available
Arrivals into Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Shirdi and other Maharashtrian airports from airports outside of Maharashtra will require T-72 hours RT-PCR negative report in the future. Hidden in the order for international arrivals, right at the end is a requirement for domestic travellers is this:
- Passengers will either have to be fully vaccinated or compulsorily carry an RTPCR Test certificate showing negative results within 72 hours before boarding.
Bottomline
Suppose you are planning to fly domestically into any airport in Maharashtra. In that case, you will need to present an RT-PCR report which is less than 72 hours old for your boarding, if you are fully vaccinated, your vaccination certificate.
What do you make of the new (old) requirements for domestic travel into Maharashtra from now on?

So what counts as fully vaccinated? 2, 2+booster, recovered + 1?
@David, in India, 2 doses mostly. Unless it is the JnJ vaccine.
What do they say for Kids below 5 years? Is RT-PCR mandatory?
@Anuj, Most probably no (from memory), but I can’t be fully sure.
