One of the key quirks of the re-start of domestic Aviation in India was each state getting their opportunity to decide if they could accept people into their state or not. Accordingly, Mumbai started with allowing only 25 flights a day to land in Mumbai and then took it up to 50.

West Bengal decided that they would not accept flights bringing in passengers from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad, given there were many suspect and confirmed CoVid-19 cases in these cities, and hence West Bengal did not want to bring in these people into their city. The ban on flights to Kolkata from the six cities was in place from July 5, 2020, and it is supposed to expire on August 31.

Now, the West Bengal government has finally allowing operation of direct/non-stop flights from six cities, namely, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Nagpur to Kolkata airport from September 1, 2020. Flights from six cities viz Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Nagpur, will be allowed in a limited manner from September. They will be allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday during 1st and 2nd week of September and Monday, Wednesday and Friday during 3rd and 4th week of September said Kolkata Airport’s official Twitter account.

Flights from six cities viz Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Nagpur will be allowed in Kolkata on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during 3rd and 4th week of September. Passengers are requested to check further schedule with concerned Airline. (2/2)@HomeBengal @wbdhfw

However, on account of a lockdown in Kolkata, no flights will be allowed to arrive or depart from West Bengal airports on 7, 11 and 12 September anyways. While this is not the most optimal scenario, the current situation is better than no operations from these major cities to Kolkata at all.
