Isidro Porqueras elevated to the position of IndiGo’s COO; Wolfgang Prock-Schauer to retire

IndiGo is reinventing itself for the next leg of its growth story, a strategic plan called “Towards new heights and across new frontiers.” Pieter Elbers, who joined two years back, is leading the change.

Today, IndiGo announced that it has nominated Isidro Porqueras for appointment, subject to regulatory approvals, as Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective November 1, 2024. Porqueras will succeed Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, who has been leading the operations at IndiGo since 2018 and will be retiring later this year.

Porqueras has 25+ years of experience leading operations, commercial, strategy, and finance teams. He is from Spain, where he completed his PhD in Physics and MBA from IESE Business School. He joined IndiGo in April 2024 as Chief of Transformation and has been engaged in operations-related projects over the past several months. Before joining IndiGo, he was COO at Volotea in Europe and also worked for McKinsey (UK), URSA Insulation, and Uralita before becoming an airline man.

On his appointment as IndiGo’s COO, Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, said,

His deep expertise in operations and demonstrated success in previous organizations will be instrumental as we continue to execute our strategic vision and expand business in international markets.

Reacting to his nomination for appointment as the Chief Operating Officer, Porqueras said,

Wolfgang Prock-Schauer to retire

Prock-Schauer is an experienced international aviation executive with over 36 years of professional experience. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of some major airlines across Europe and Asia. He started his career in 1981 at Austrian Airlines, responsible for network management, strategic planning and alliances, and integration of the airlines Lauda Air and Tyrolean. He has also worked with Jet Airways (India), British Midland International, Air Berlin (Germany/ UK) and Go Air (India). He arrived at IndiGo in 2018, after his stint at Jet Airways (2003 – 2009) and then Go Air (2015-2017), and became COO of the airline.

Mr. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said,

Mr. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer has an illustrious aviation career spanning over 40 years. His total tenure in Indian aviation spans over an impressive 15 years. Also, on behalf of the Managing Director, and the Board of Directors, I would like to deeply thank Wolfgang for effectively and successfully leading IndiGo’s operations over these years, including during the difficult Covid pandemic times. He has played a vital role in shaping IndiGo’s operations and has contributed to its sustained growth.

Bottomline

IndiGo will see Isidro Porqueras being elevated as the COO of the airline in November 2024. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, who has spent over four decades in aviation, with 15 years in Indian aviation itself, will retire at the same time.

  1. Indigo is a significant player in the Indian aviation scene and has presented an efficient though not low cost anymore, alternative to ailing AI and a few fly by night newcomers.

    However they now leave the consumer with a perception if being exploited especially in the routes where they have a monopoly which are quite a few. !

    That said we look forward to their new era of stretch and other offerings.
