HDFC Bank has launched the Infinia Metal Version on October 18, 2021. From here on, the earlier version of Infinia will not be issued for fresh issuances at all. The new Infinia comes with perks, such as a third night free at many ITC hotels and 1+1 on weekend buffets. However, one of the notable earlier perks is going away in the process.

A long-standing benefit of Infinia has been 2x points on Dining, as long as you pay with your Infinia at a standalone dining outlet, such as a SmokeHouse Deli or a Punjab Grill or a KFC and so on. Simply said, as long as you are paying more than INR 150 for your meal, instead of 5 RP/INR 150 spent, you get 10 RP/INR 150 spent in the case of dining outlets. At least on paper, this benefit was not applicable to fine dining establishments such as those housed inside a 5-star hotel (for example, Morimoto at Taj Mahal Palace). You could earn a bonus of at most 1000 points per day using this benefit.

The new Infinia Metal card will not be eligible for the 2X points on the Dining benefit, and this old benefit is being removed, effective December 1, 2021, for the PVC cards.

While this is a big loss for people like me who used to dine out a lot, at least the festive period is being left out of this, and so, those of you who intend to be dining out, you have approximately 45 days to earn bonus points using your card before the benefit goes away.
