IndiGo, which has been undergoing a massive meltdown all week, hasn’t come out smelling of roses even in the aftermath. Cancellations and reschedules have not been generous, and in many cases, impossible without the application of cancellation or reschedule charges.
IndiGo ordered to process all refunds by 7 PM IST today
The Ministry of Civil Aviation directed IndiGo to clear all pending passenger refunds without delay. The Ministry mandated that the refund process for all cancelled or disrupted flights must be fully completed by 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025. IndiGo has also been instructed not to levy any rescheduling charges for passengers whose travel plans were affected by cancellations.
IndiGo has been instructed to set up a dedicated passenger support and refund facilitation cell. This cell has been tasked with proactively contacting affected passengers and ensuring that refunds and alternative travel arrangements are processed without the need for multiple follow-ups. The system of automatic refunds will remain active until operations stabilise completely.
IndiGo to trace and return all bags by 1 PM on December 8, 2025
IndiGo also has to ensure that all baggage separated from passengers due to cancellations or delays are traced and delivered to the passenger’s residential or chosen address within 48 hours of 1 PM on December 6, 2025. IndiGo has been told to maintain clear communication with passengers regarding tracking and delivery timelines, and to provide compensation where required under existing passenger rights regulations.

IndiGo passengers’ bags at an Indian Airport
Bottomline
The Whip has been cracked. The first step has been to ask IndiGo to process all refunds for 100,000s of passengers by December 7, 2025, 8 PM. IndiGo has also been invited to return the passengers with their bags by December 8, 2025. Even though I don’t think they will be able to do this thoroughly by the prescribed time, this is the diktat for them for now.
What do you think of the instructions for IndiGo? I know these are in the public interest, but are the deadlines setting them up to fail, or will they be achieved?

Zero mercy for Indigo at the moment. Although I always used to root for them and even justify their high prices as being cost paid for efficiency and trust. But blind crony capitalism and arm twisting government and abusing employees cannot be forgiven. This blemish will stay forever on indigo now.
