Given that the Government of India has demonetized INR 500 and INR 1000 notes as of November 9, 2016, there has been chaos for all sorts of people. I am myself a proponent of a cashless economy, but there are places even I need currency. For instance, I was travelling back to India on November 10, 2016, and I was feeling lucky I had a few INR 100s and a few 20s in my pocket, enough to pay for my parking fees which Uber does not enable cashless anymore! At the odd hour of 4 am, I would not want my wife to come to the airport to bring us change of notes, specially because the whole city was running dry due to no ATMs working.
Now, it seems the government has started to appreciate the problem. So, as of date, they are scrapping parking charges at all airports across the country through midnight of November 21. Why? Because we need small notes to pay for the parking, and this is not possible anymore for the time being.
This directive was put in place on the midnight of November 14, 2016 and is applicable for all airports in India, including the JV ones such as in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
