IHG Rewards Club was the first off the bat with gamified promotions, being the pioneers in making the Accelerate promotion a few years ago. Their first promotion for the year is due to finish as of April 2018.
Now, IHG Rewards Club has released their Accelerate promotion for the year. This time around, the promotion is valid for stays between May 1 and July 31, 2018.
To access your customised offer, follow the link and register for the promotion. The promotion offers a minimum of 30,000 bonus IHG points to new accounts, but your mileage may vary. The tasks given to you are applicable only on qualifying rates, which means usual revenue rates and not stuff like crew rates or friends & family rates.
Here is my offer, which allows me to earn 34,400 bonus after completing 18 nights. It does not look appealing, rather, it looks apalling!
The positive here is that I can complete the whole offer by staying at IHG hotels anywhere across the world. I also do not have to make stays at any specific IHG brand, which is again sweet. So, essentially I could stay 18 nights at a budget hotel like Holiday Inn Express in India and complete the challenge, I wouldn’t do that though!
Combining Accelerate & Book Direct Promotion
My Book Direct promotion this year allows me to earn 71k bonus points where after completing three stays (no minimum nights required) I get 41k points. So if I strategically combine the two offers, I can get a big boatload of points! I have in the past maximized my Accelerate and Book Direct and earned 75k points.
Ajay’s offer is a wee bit complex. He can earn a total of 68,300 points by staying 7 nights spread across a minimum of 2 stays until July 31, 2018. But that’s not all, he also has geographical and brand restrictions in place. Again, not a promotion worth going out of the way at all.

My first and second quarter 2018 customized Accelerate offers are inferior to preceding years. I stay at a Holiday Inn 45 to 50 nights a year. I am being “rewarded” with an offer which I can reasonably only earn 4000 points. This is a pitiful manner in which to reward a loyal customer.
