This has been long coming actually. Back in January 2013, American Express withdrew their co-branded card partnership with Kingfisher Airlines. It seems ICICI Bank followed closely after but in a not so public manner, and has now announced the plan of action to discontinue their partnership with Kingfisher Airlines, due to discontinuation of the said airlines’ services.
As per their announcement:
We wish to inform you that the ICICI Bank and Kingfisher Airlines co-brand Credit Card program has been discontinued due to discontinuation of Kingfisher Airlines services. As a result, the ICICI Bank Kingfisher Airlines Credit Card will be valid till March 31, 2013.
For your convenience, an ICICI Bank Platinum MasterCard Credit Card will be issued to you in lieu of your existing ICICI Bank Kingfisher Airlines Credit Card at no Annual Fee from March 15, 2013 onwards.
So, some of you who subscribed to this credit card should have already received new plastic, and some others should expect it in the coming days. With all the discussion around Kingfisher restarting operations, I am not sure they would first want to be selling more miles and hence, this does look like a sound move.
For those interested in an airline-mileage earning credit card, ICICI Bank did form a credit-card partnership with Jet Airways last year, and while it is the most horrible card in terms of customer service, it is the most lucrative card for earning JP Miles. If you would be interested, they have an offer for bonus signup JP Miles till March 31, 2013. You should be able to call them and ask to be switched over to the Jet Airways credit cards.
