There are two very good reasons I try to stick with Hyatt Gold Passport as one of my primary hotel loyalty programs:
- The very well known 4 Diamond Suite Upgrade Certificates every year, which allow me to apply a certificate a revenue/cash+points booking on a published rate and get a confirmed suite for up to 7 nights
- Upgrade to the best room on arrival and complimentary club lounge access or full breakfast for up to 4 people
There are of course other reasons as well, including a welcome amenity or bonus points at check in and usually good treatment by the hotels. Sometimes they do upgrade you to suites as well and pamper you.
Over the past few days, however, some more reasons have come up to stick with Hyatt.
- Free Premium Internet: With effect from February 14, 2015 everyone who stays at a Hyatt property gets complimentary internet access. However, elites get free premium internet (higher speed) for free.
- Award stays for friends/family with Diamond status: A new benefit which is being honoured since yesterday is the ability to transfer your Diamond status to friends/family when you make an award reservation for them with your points. In this case, all diamond benefits such as free breakfast, lounge access and best room upon arrival will now be honoured for your guests. However, the benefit is only valid for award redemptions and not points+cash redemptions.
- United Club Passes: Diamond members will receive 2 United Club passes annually. With these passes, one-time trips can be made at any of the 45 United Clubs around the world. I find this a lazy partnership personally, given both the companies are based in Chicago and go a long way back. I’d have much preferred some local lounge access rather than having to use an United Club while in the USA.
All in all positive changes and while I haven’t made a stay so far this year with Hyatt, I do hope to send a lot of business there way in the coming days!
As a reminder, Hyatt is indeed offering 2500 bonus points for Indian stays for one more month (all of March 2015)
