My go to hotel, while I am in Kuwait, is the Sheraton Kuwait Hotel. The Sheraton Kuwait, is a Starwood hotel, a Luxury Collection property which is somehow a splatter of almost all the Starwood brands out there. I’ll come to that in a moment. However, it is a hotel which has been very nice to me over my 5-6 stays with them over the years, in spite of the fact that I am only a SPG Gold member.

My stays with them are usually a one night stay, and hotel prices in Kuwait are regulated, so I have never seen this hotel offering a price less than 85 Kuwaiti Dinar. However, for the price you pay, you also get a round trip transfer and breakfast included in your rates. The Sheraton Kuwait also offers to sponsor your visa to Kuwait, however, the charges for that are 10 Kuwaiti Dinar. They send you a facsimile copy of your visa, and the original is deposited for collection at a counter in the airport.

On my arrival into Kuwait, I usually have a meet and greet service signed up, who walks me through all the procedures and hands me off to the hotel representative who is waiting outside. This time around, there was a nice big Ford Tahoe SUV waiting to drive me to the hotel, which is usually a 20 minute ride. The new thing I noticed was that the SUV was equipped with wifi, so if you want to get to work right away, this is it.

On arrival at the hotel, the hotel staff welcomed me back, and only needed me to sign off on the rate sheet, since they already had my card on file. While I was seated, a cold towel was brought about and also a choice of welcome drinks were offered. I went with the lemon juice.

I was informed I was upgraded to a junior suite, which is one of the room categories I like at this hotel. The hotel has two wings, and the newer wing is called the Tower section. I’ve stayed with them at the Tower rooms and suites, the standard room, and this suite, and this is by far my favourite of them all. A bellboy insisted on bringing my luggage to the room, and a hotel staff in the lobby escorted me to the elevator.

I was assigned a room towards the far end of the 7th floor, and the junior suites here are pretty big and a genuinely a suite experience (not a room partitioned into two and called a suite kinds I mean). With the entrance into the living room, there is a small washroom on the left, for all the visitors you may expect to receive.

The living room sports a nice couch, a massive coffee table, a work desk, complete with wifi router and a fax machine-cum-printer, and a lot of options for entertainment. Along with the television, you have a DVD player, and also a hifi system in case you wanted to play your own CDs. Surprisingly, in today’s day and age, they have not invested in having connectivity for your iPhones or iDevices, such as in-room chargers and alarm clocks which are usually found at most hotels. Not that I am fussed about it.

Also, while I always receive welcome fruits on check-in here, this time, there was an exceptionally big bowl of fruits, and a plate of dry fruits and nougats and chocolates waiting for me. I was initially planning to call in some room service for dinner, but I think I had enough of fruits for dinner while I watched a movie and got some work done now. Kuwait being a dry country, the minibar was also stocked accordingly.

The bedroom sported a nice queen size bed, and I had a view of the newer Four Points by Sheraton property which shares the complex with the Sheraton Kuwait. The hotel does not have any views to talk of specifically, so it does not make too much of a difference.

The bedroom had a lounge chair with an ottoman on the side, and a massive marble table. Which brings me to a fun fact about the hotel, it has a lot of marble, and all of it is Italian. Here are some pictures of the bedroom.

Since I was arriving at about 9 PM, the turn down service was already done on the room.

The bathroom is really almost full of Italian marble, and while the hotel used to provide Hermes toiletry amenities earlier, they have been providing Bvlgari for the past year or so. While televisions in bathrooms are a new concept comparatively, I’ve seen them have this ever since I started visiting the hotel a few years back.

The shower cubicle had a hand-held shower as well as a rain-shower one, and it was good pressure in the shower. And there were a lot of towels for one room and one guest.

The next morning, I headed to the Al-Hamra restaurant by the lobby for breakfast. This is the restaurant serving the full breakfast buffet, and there is also a smaller continental spread organised in the Sheraton Towers Lounge, if you are put up in a room in the Towers wing.

The buffet is one of the most expansive breakfast buffets I have seen. Apart from the usual cereals, fruits, breads and bakery items, there is an egg station, and hot dishes from perhaps all the markets their guests come and stay with them. I have to admit, I haven’t been able to get around to most of this food, and I stick to my cereal and some lightweight food when I am around.

I got back to the restaurant later in the day for a business lunch, and they had a good offering around for lunch as well. Apart from this restaurant, the hotel has 6 other restaurants, and my favourite one is the Lebanese restaurant, Le Tarbouche, on the top floor of the hotel.

On one of my earlier trips in April 2014, I was put up in the Towers Wing, and I was given access to the Towers Lounge. My perfect combination would be to get the suite I got along with the Towers wing Lounge access, but it does not seem to work that ways for the hotel.

The hotel has a very mixed positioning of brands from the Starwood stable. Usually, the Luxury Collection is for hotels that Starwood is associated with, but they want to have their own brand name. This hotel has the Sheraton as well as the Luxury Collection badge, and they also have the St. Regis suites inside the hotel. The next door, the same management runs the Four Points by Sheraton hotel as well, which has a Starbucks where I get my coffee fix when I am checked out of the hotel but I have time to catch my flight.

Overall, a great stay and I love coming back here ever so often. I’m sure hoping to try out their St. Regis Suite some time.
