Hotel Review: Four Points by Sheraton Bengaluru, Whitefield

After the disaster called The Park Bangalore, we shifted towards Whitefield Bangalore. This was to get an idea of how the business hotels in one of the new hubs of Bangalore were. The Four Points by Sheraton Whitefield is a fairly new hotel that opened its doors about 3 years ago.  The hotel is located on the main road in the business district of Whitefield and was very easy for us to locate as first time guests.

The Lobby

After about an hour of driving, we arrived at the hotel, and the lobby was empty when we arrived. A hotel agent walked up from the offices when they noticed we were waiting to check-in. It was Dussera and seemed the hotel worked with the least staff available on this day.

On the right side was the reception area and on the left, there were some sofas and couches placed vertically for guests to sit on. At the far end of the lobby was a lounging area that had a television and I could spot a few board games and books stacked on the shelf.

To add to the local flavour the lobby walls had paintings of Dravidian and Hoysala temples from the region. In fact, there was a monolithic stone carved Nandi bull statue; which is a prominent sight outside many South Indian temples; right as we walked into the hotel.

Our check-in was swift and hassle-free. The staff at the reception chatted us up and during the conversation, I learnt that this was a fairly small business hotel with 100 rooms. As a Starwood Preferred Guest elite, they also upgraded us to their Junior Suite which again the staff told us happens to be the best suite in the hotel. We thanked them, grabbed our bags and headed straight to the lift lobby. I’d still not shaken off the earlier Suite I had just checked out of.

The Executive Suite

Our suite was at the end of the corridor on the 6th floor which was also the Starwood Preferred Guest floor.

The suite opened into a spacious living room. The living area was well light and tastefully furnished with a sofa and pouffes.

There was a grey stone bust sculpture around the corner that blended in nicely with the room décor.

Other amenities in the living room included a mini bar. Then there kettle and an assortment of tea and coffee sachets along with some snacks and nibbles placed in a basket above the mini bar. The living room also had a half bathroom next to the entrance.

A sliding door partitioned the living room and the bedroom. The bedroom was furnished in a contemporary style with a queen size bed and an ottoman. I have to say that the thick sink-in mattresses were very comfortable and I slept like a baby in the night.

There was a chair and a coffee table by the window. Our room overlooked the main road which did get quite noisy during the evening busy traffic.  A work desk was placed in one corner and there were plug points placed on the wall panel above the desk. One good thing was that there were multiple sockets and charging points in the room.

The suite had a generous bathroom. In fact, generous is an understatement; the bathroom was as big as the bedroom itself.

I later figured why. The bathroom also rolled up the storage area, though surprisingly there were no wardrobes or any other arrangements we could hang our clothes. I am glad that the hotel did not congest the bathroom by fixing a tub and instead there was a spacious shower cubicle.

Overall, the room was not cluttered with furniture and extremely spacious. It was designed to meet all the needs of the business traveller and had beautiful interiors. The only thing I would have liked was to have a dedicated wardrobe which I’m not sure why don’t have considering the bathroom had ample space.

Breakfast @ The Eatery

Next morning we headed to the all-day dining restaurant for breakfast. All Four Points branded hotels have a standard all-day dining restaurant named The Eatery. Breakfast is served every day at The Eatery from 6 am to 11 am.

The breakfast buffet was standard and included the regular spread of cereals, fruits, choice of juices and greens.

The hot items had eggs made to order, grilled vegetables and sausages. There was also an Indian selection of paranthas, pooris, potato curry, chickpea curry and South Indian dishes included dosas, idlis and vadas. Ajay requested for some hot pooris which arrived after three reminders. Even though the restaurant was not at all busy the staff were unattentive. The North Indian selection was good.

And after breakfast, we ordered for cappuccinos. I picked a few items from the bakery while Ajay ordered a plate of waffles. The waffles were chewy and the baked goods at the hotel were quite substandard.

On the whole, even though there was everything available on the breakfast buffet, except for the hot buffet, the taste was not great and service sub par.

Facilities

The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool and a basic fitness room adjoining the pool. There is also an Indian restaurant on the roof that opens in the evenings.

There is also a bar named Best Brews that serves a variety of bottled and handcrafted draught beers. It was a dry day, and hence it was closed.

Location

Four Points by Sheraton is located in the midst of Bangalore’s IT district, Whitefield. The hotel is an apt choice for business travellers looking to stay in the eastern periphery of Greater Bangalore. The hotel itself is situated on the Whitefield main road and has easy access to the city. We stepped out for dinner in the evening and there were restaurants and food carts in walking distance of the hotel.

Bottomline

The Four Points by Sheraton was a good choice in the Whitefield area. Rooms were modern, clean and well decorated. The staff were professional and helpful when they were around. A standard room night here usually costs INR 4,000 plus taxes and as an SPG category 1 hotel a reward night can be redeemed for 3,000 Starpoints, which I’d say, don’t do it because it is bad value with the cheap prices in the first place.

As for our experience, this is a complete value for money hotel. We had a wonderful stay at the hotel and I will be very happy to come back here again.

  1. Why do you say bad value for redemption? The conversion rate appears to be close to 1.5 rs = 1 spg point. Good value IMO!

    • @VS, would I rather spend those star points here, or at a resort where I’d get outsized value for those points.

    • @VS lots of SPG hotels where you can get a better value on redemption. For instance Westin & ITC Sonar in Kolkala will get you a value close to INR 3 for 1 SPG point next month.
