Hong Kong had banned visitors coming into the city and passengers in transit late March 2020 onwards. Since then, Cathay Pacific drew operations to a nought. This had changed later on to arrival with home-quarantine for 14 days practice.
Today, City Executive, Carrie Lam confirmed at a press briefing that the transit operations at Hong Kong International Airport will resume from June 1, 2020. She said,
Transit services at the airport, which have been suspended since March 25, will partly resume on June 1.
This should help Cathay Pacific, which along with Cathay Dragon carried a total of 13,729 passengers in April 2020, a decrease of 99.6% compared to April 2019. Cathay Pacific has plans in place to start rebuilding its international network come June 2020 with flight operations to many cities including in Australia, USA, Europe, and Delhi and Mumbai in India.
More details are awaited, but this is promising news from one of the biggest airports in the region, about the return of air travel.
