Hilton announces 2x points/miles summer promotion till July 2014

Hilton Hotels have announced their new points earning promotion which will run between May 1, 2014 to July 31, 2014. You earn Double (base) Points or Miles on all stays during the promotion period. This is close on the lines of SPG announcing a similar promotion.

To be able to earn 2x Points/Miles, you need to register using this link, prior to your first check-out. About 600 properties have opted out. There is only the DoubleTree by Hilton Pune which has skipped this promotion from India.

If you choose to go 2x on Points, you will have to select Points + Points as your DoubleDip earning option. Non-elites earn 10 base points per US Dollar spent, and with this promotion that makes it 20 base points per US Dollar spent. With Points+Points, you get another 5 points per US Dollar spent. Elites will find 2.5 base points per US Dollar spent extra if they are Gold, and 5 base points extra per US Dollar if they are Diamond. That means, you earn 25 base points per US Dollar spent plus your elite bonuses.

If you choose to go 2x on the Miles, you need to have Points + Miles as your earning option and selected a preferred option for your airlines. You earn 10 base points per US Dollar spent, and 1 mile per US Dollar spent. With this promotion, you get 10 base points plus 2 miles per US Dollar spent.

Earning 15 points is not comparable with earning 2 miles, and I will be going with the option to earn points + points during this stay.
