HDFC Bank to discontinue Lifetime Free Credit Cards under Alumni offer on October 27, 2023

HDFC Bank has offered alumni of select educational institutions a lifetime free HDFC Bank Credit Card, at least since 2019. The bank will close this offer shortly, so it is worth mentioning again if someone wants to sign up for the card in the next few days.

HDFC Bank’s Lifetime Free Credit Cards to Alumni of Select Institutions

HDFC Bank offers a lifetime free Diners Club Credit Card to alumni of select educational institutions. At last count, this was over 100+ institutions across India, including prominent IIMs, IITs, MDI Gurugram, ISB, AIIMS, etc. The last available list is here; although this might have changed, I cannot vouch for the accuracy. Diners Club Black or Diners Club Privilege Cards are issued to those who have already graduated. Cards come with your institute name embossed under your name on the card.

Cards are also issued to final-year students of these institutions. They get the Diners Club Millenia or Moneyback+ cards, depending on their institution’s classification in the HDFC Bank internal matrix. A copy of your certificate will be required, apart from other documents the Bank will ask for from you.

My fellow alma mater recently indicated that he received an email about the closure of this programme effective October 27, 2023. Here is the email.

As per a recent communication sent out, here is the card that is granted:

  • Final year student or up to 3 years experience post graduation from specified Institute: Diners Club Millennia card
  • 3 to less than eight years experience or Net Salary post taxes (INR 70K to less than 1.75 lacs): Diners Club Privilege card
  • 8 Years+ Experience or Net Salary > 1.75 lacs: Diners Club Black.

If you already have a card with the bank and want to upgrade to this offer, email priorityredressal dot creditcards at hdfcbank dot com to initiate the process (along with the documents showing your income and degree).

Bottomline

HDFC Bank will close out its Diners Institute Program on October 27, 2023, and no more lifetime free cards to members of various institutes will be issued after that date. If you want to upgrade your card, you can just drop an email with the relevant papers, and if you want to apply anew, you can head to a branch of HDFC Bank.

Have you availed yourself of the HDFC Bank LTF Diners Club cards?
