HDFC Bank will withdraw ExtraJPMiles in March!

One of the longest running features of the HDFC Bank JetPrivilege credit cards and debit card partnership has been the ExtraJPMiles program, which has been operated out of a separate website since the time that JPMiles co-branded credit cards were launched by HDFC Bank. At the time it was launched, they tied up with some pretty high-end brands to offer extra JPMiles when paying with an HDFC Bank co-branded JetPrivilege cards. While I never published a list, I remember these included some Marriott hotels and so on.

However, the program has been languishing ever since, with no focus being given on it by the bank for the longest time. Or even if they were, there was hardly any success. For instance, hardly anyone was paying them to offer extra miles in the hospitality segment. It is no secret that HDFC Bank and JetPrivilege individually and together have the pull for brands. Just look at the success of the Diners Club 10X program.

It was a chore to have to refer to a website separately if you were going to pay somewhere and you’d need to find out that if you paid with your HDFC Bank JP card, it would net you some extra miles (Other cards would anyways get you higher miles there!).

So, I believe, with the same thought process as mine, the bank has finally decided to pull a plug on the ExtraJPmiles program. Members have been sent messages yesterday notifying them that the program will be pulled on March 31, 2018. So, no transactions made on April 1, 2018, or onwards will be able to get Extra JP Miles for paying with an HDFC Bank Credit Card.

ExtraJPMiles discontinued

Bottomline

This is after the 2017 chopping of earnings on non-cobranded as well as co-branded cards from HDFC Bank. However, this is one I don’t mind going since it wasn’t much use anyways.

What do you think of the latest move from HDFC Bank to withdraw the Extra JPMiles program?

  1. I had applied for a second credit card (HDFC JetPrivilege Signature) within the same credit limit of my DC Black card. Today, I received a reply from HDFC stating that “We regret to inform you that the Jet Signature card has been phased out by the bank.,hence we are unable to accede with your request.”

  2. I don’t think I want to continue using this card anymore. This is the only debit card I used. I always keep one debit card along with my cc’s. Suggestions for an alternate HDFC debit card as I already have an existing account with them.
