Just this morning, I shared with you the sad news about the HDFC Bank 10X Reward Points for the Smartbuy programme were over, and instead a new 5X Rewards Points programme was implemented.
Now, historically, HDFC Bank always does a filler one-month promotion, which is perhaps what we saw launched today.
But, it seems the HDFC Bank 10X promotion on Smartbuy will be back sooner than we expect. This evening, the HDFC Bank 10X Reward Points was back all over the place.
When you click through to the promotion, however, you see that the Smartbuy promotion of 10X Reward Points or 10% cashback is valid through March 2020 now.
But when you look at the T&C, it still shows March 2019.
Okay, scratch that, HDFC has just formalised the HDFC 10X Smartbuy promotion to have returned for a period of one month for now.
That means you could earn 10X points for the following activities with HDFC SmartBuy here on:
- Flight Booking
- Hotel Booking
- Shopping via Flipkart and Amazon
- Comparison shopping via the SmartBuy website.
The maximum number of reward points you can earn per cycle is 25000 Reward Points, and the promotion does not apply to EMI transactions. These are over and above the reward points towards the usual 10X cycle every month, which is also due for renewal now.
The new 10X offer runs through April 2019 for the moment, which is great news since the summer holidays season is right here upon us! Your cash backs and points would post within 90 days!
Something gives me the feeling that the promotion will return in its full glory, and someone was just too eager to give us a heads up about it so that no one walks away from HDFC Bank after the devalued promotion. But it will take a while for this new promotion to be firmed up and rolled out to users.
What do you make out of the flip flop on the HDFC Smartbuy 10X promotion? Was the 5X a practical April Fools joke on us?
I am not sure of I am getting the 10x points on my diner black.. as per my calculations I am not getting more than 3-5% points,, even on Amazon or Uber or smartbuy.. seems some random gimmick..
Hi Ajay, thanks for this – would you suggest opting for reward points or the cashback? I use both HDFC credit and debit cards, but I’ve never found any products worth redeeming in the HDFC rewards catalogue. Are they transferable anywhere? If not, I’d rather opt for the cashback.

I use my regalia credit card fir must transactions including grocery via smart buy. You can redeem your credit card reward point for travelling or hotel stay.

The last iteration included the eligibility of EMI transactions for points too. However, Amazon transactions were excluded.
If you see the terms and conditions on the promotion page,
Applicable for EMI Transactions (on flights / Hotels / Flipkart store). Not applicable on EMI transactions on Compare & Shop, and Amazon exclusive store.
So you are gtg for EMIS for your flights/Hotels & Flipkart transactions.
