A few days ago, Vistara started to allow people to buy the middle-seat to keep it empty, in case people so wanted to maintain physical distancing in the times of CoVid-19. This week, a couple of other Indian airlines have also come out with the opportunity to buy the seat adjacent to you and keep it empty if you so wish. This move was followed by IndiGo and GoAir, offering the ability to book a second seat next to them and keep it empty. GoAir is now taking this a step further.
GoAir introduces GoFly Private.
GoAir has launched the ability to book multiple seats even if you are not occupying them all and keep a safe distance between you and everyone else. This way, you get the choice to book two empty seats or nine (three before you, three behind you and the two next to you).
However, the booking process for Go Private is not technology-enabled. So, you need to send an email to GoAir (at least 24 hours prior) if you want to book empty seats with this proposition. The travel details will include the date of travel, flight number, number of seats required (primary customer + extra seats) and also the seat numbers you want. GoAir will come back with the availability and price quotation. If it works for you, GoAir will send you a payment link which you pay with, and you get the ticket.
The quirk here is that the baggage allowance will be provided for only one passenger, and not for the extra seats.
With flights operating at less than 50% loads on most days and demand being damp (and fares being regulated, and airlines only being allowed limited operations), it makes sense to try and get some more money from the people who are flying at the moment. How much extra cash is GoAir expecting per seat, I don’t know yet. But if I do, I will update this story.
