FlyingBlue seems to be in the habit of offering a status match every few years to swell its ranks of elite members. They did a massive status match campaign in 2011, where you could get top-tier status with them (Platinum, equivalent to SkyTeam ElitePlus), for 2 years. Now, they are back with a new status match promotion, where your Gold status with any airline will offer you Gold Status on KLM/Air France Flying Blue. I would also assume upwards of Gold Status will also offer you Gold Status only, but this is still to be validated.
So, with this promotion, all you have to do is to sign up for a KLM/Air France FlyingBlue account, which you can do here www.klm.com and then, use a scan of your existing Gold status to get instant status approval on KLM/AF Flying Blue.
Though I suspect the status match must be subject to some verification and hence it will take a short while before you get the confirmation. I am not immediately able to confirm the outcome because I don’t seem to have my FlyingBlue account password on hand!!
Here are the details of the privileges on offer:
- 75% Elite bonus
- More award ticket flights
- Priority Checkin + Boarding
- Preferred treatment
- Lounge access (with +1)
- Check-in and transfer benefits
- Extra baggage allowance
- Weight concept destinations
- Carried over Level Miles
This promotion is on till May 30, 2013. If you made use, or intend to make use of the Turkish Airlines status match to Gold, you can now use that as well to get a FlyingBlue Gold status, which is equivalent to ElitePlus on SkyTeam.
Another SkyTeam member Aerolineas was offering a status match upto their higher tier. You can check the details here.

Update: Gold status now reflects in my a/c.
I keep trying to submit with a pdf scan and I get the message “You have not filled out all the fields correctly.” Any suggestions?
AF Gold doesn’t give you domestic lounge access on Delta unlike Star Alliance Gold from a non-US carrier, right?
OK…a little underhand, but nonetheless, FWIW, here goes.
I attempted this status match with my Jet Privilege Plat card, and I now have a confirmation that reads “You are now a Flying Blue Gold Member. Your Flying Blue Gold Membership card will be sent to you shortly.”
So:
1. It seems to work with any airline membership
2. Verification seems to be immediate
3. If you hold a higher status than Gold, you still get only Gold on AF.
@aniruddh, have you seen the gold status reflect in your account? I have a feeling that manual verification will be done before going gold. And yes, they are only giving away gold so any higher status will still get you gold.
