While neither airline has issued formal media statements, Etihad Airways is preparing to launch a codeshare partnership with Indian no-frills carrier Akasa in March 2025.
Etihad Airways to codeshare with Akasa Air.
Akasa, the Indian no-frills airline that launched in 2022 and now operates internationally from India to the Middle East (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia—Jeddah and Riyadh, UAE—Abu Dhabi, Qatar—Doha), inked a codeshare partnership with Etihad Airways in late 2024. The partnership will go live in March 2025.
This partnership will allow Etihad to place its code and sell tickets on Akasa Air’s flights operating between Abu Dhabi and India, effective March 1, 2025. The flights have already gone on sale and can be spotted on the Etihad website.
Etihad’s code will be placed on Akasa’s flights between Abu Dhabi and Ahmedabad, and Abu Dhabi and Bengaluru. This is the first and only codeshare for Akasa Air. It is important to note that Etihad had previously collaborated with the same management team while at Jet Airways. Hence, the links already existed on both sides, and they needed to be reinvigorated.
A game of bilaterals
Unlike other countries, where India negotiates one set of bilateral seat allocations or a number of flights, the UAE’s bilaterals were negotiated before it became the United Arab Emirates. Therefore, separate bilateral agreements exist with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other Emirates.
The bilateral allocation is fully utilised on the Abu Dhabi side, but some capacity exists on the Indian side to operate to Abu Dhabi. Etihad could leverage this by having Akasa launch even more flights into Abu Dhabi.
Bottomline
Akasa will launch its first codeshare partnership, with Etihad Airways being the partner who will place their code on Akasa Air’s flights operating to and from Abu Dhabi. The partnership will go live in March 2025, and it will be the first such partnership for Akasa, which is just 2.5 years old at the moment.

@Priyansh I don’t know, for now.
Thanks for the great info. I enjoy Etihad immensely and although Akasa is a no-frills airline, I’ve wanted to try them and this makes things a little easier. Thank you from across the globe. Montana, USA
It’s a great move . Now they should reintroduce PNQ-AUH flight which 9W operated for a long time.
