Etihad had introduced an opportunity to status match to their Gold tier last year, which I availed of. And they return this year with another opportunity to Status Match Gold tier for Gold tier this year, valid for applications received till June 18, 2013.
Existing members of other airlines’ loyalty programmes at a Gold level or higher are invited to join the Etihad Guest programme and have their status matched. The national carrier of the UAE, which is working on getting Jet Airways in its fold, is offering another incentive to successful status matches. For all flights flown in Diamond First Class, you get triple Etihad Guest Miles while it will be double Miles on flights in Pearl Business Class for a limited period. Remember, different programs have different levels of Gold status, so I’m sure its a foot in the door to have American Airlines Gold status, for instance, but anyone with British Airways Gold status will have a higher chance of getting a status match.
To apply, the following documents are required to be sent by email to guesttiermatch@etihad.ae before June 18, 2013:
- Scanned copy of the gold or higher tier card with another airline
- Scanned copy of the latest miles statement from that airline
- Etihad Guest membership number
For more information on the benefits of Etihad Guest Gold membership, visit etihad.com. As per Etihad, there are only 500 status match opportunities available, however last year they ended up giving away a lot more of those I believe. They expect to revert for the status match results by July 30, 2013.
There is no first come first serve allocation here, and each application is assessed for the business case before upgrading tiers.

What is the idea of getting Etihad Gold via status match if Etihad is not a part of any alliance?
@Slava it helps those who travel on Etihad or its associate airlines
oh ok great! thank you!
Did I read that right? They’ll revert your status back on July 30, 2013? Does that mean if I get matched by June 18th, I’ll only be Etihad gold from June 18 until July 30 of this year?
@Joey no it should be valid for two years. They will take till July to tell you if they accepted you as gold or not
