Etihad Guest reneges on terms of Citi 25% transfer bonus

It’s back to the old ways of Etihad Guest where it is common for a loyalty program to change the terms of a promotion after announcing it. A few weeks ago, they announced a promotion where they stated that everyone who transfers from their Citi rewards accounts across various geographies was going to earn a 25% bonus on their Etihad mileage conversion.

A few readers complained they did not see the offer. I looked up the terms and conditions of the offer again today, and they had changed the wording.

Before: No mention of this promotion being country specific

image

After: The promotion is limited to UAE cardmembers

Is someone going to own up to this and do the right thing for the other cardmembers who did effect transfers into Etihad before they changed their mind for the nth time?

  1. I had a similar experience.. I registered for “Double your miles in Business Class ” promotion on BOM- CMB-BOM. Though we had a return ticket, got credit only for 1 way journey and that too not 2X miles but only 1.5X

  2. I am beginning to loose faith in this Etithad Jet airways seemingly unholy partnership. I transferred my citi premier miles to etihad and now I am hearing that there is no bonus. Last Sept., they had a double miles offer on International flights and I registered for their promotion and I never got the double miles. Jetairways later started asking me for some code as proof for registration. But I never got any registration email, nor did I take the screenshot of the registration page and the link no longer worked.

  3. It is time for passengers to fight for their rights. Anyone who did the transfer based on the original T&C can sue both Citibank and Etihad in consumer court and get redress. Likewise Jet Airways.

After a few years of experience with QR, I have stopped trusting the middle east airlines’ FFPs. I cannot say about EK since I have no experience at all.

Stick with the tried and trusted.

  4. Even Jet Airways did the same. The 25% bonus mailer had no mention that only Citibank UAE customers are eligible. After I didn’t get bonus miles & contacted Jet Airways, they told Citibank India customers are not eligible for bonus. The mailer only had mention of 1:1 conversion applicable for UAE citibank customers only.

Repeat attempts to get the due credit have proved futile.

  5. When I logged on to my account, I realized that they have even removed this New page which had a link earlier, when you click on Financial partner. Now the banner says, No page found..!
