Emirates will come home to check you in

Passengers flying out of Dubai can now cut down their travel time and enjoy their journey a little bit more. Emirates has introduced a new home check-in service, exclusively for passengers whose travel is originating from Dubai International Airport (DXB). You can check-in, get your boarding pass and have your luggage sent on the plane from anywhere in Dubai – home, hotel, office etc.

The service is open for Emirates passengers on all classes and is available for AED 350 (~$95) per trip, and includes up to 7 pieces of luggage picked up from your location. Any additional piece of luggage will be charged AED 35. Also, keep in mind, you will need to pay for the service at the time of booking via credit card. Just remember to book your home check-in service on emirates.com up to 12 hours before the flight departure time.

Once booked, an Emirates representative will arrive at your preferred location with a fully decked-out van 48 hours to 7 hours before departure. Using an electronic system fitted at the back of the van, they will scan your passport details, do documents check, tag your luggage and hand over your boarding pass. Once your bags are checked-in, all you need to do is make your way to the airport.

So, once you reach the airport, without struggling to load your bags in and out of the car, you just need to head straight to immigration and security check. No more standing in line waiting for check-in and anxiously eyeing the clock when you’re hit by an unexpected crowd at the airport. This means that if you’re a UAE resident with e-gate access, your entire airport time is cut down significantly and you can spend a little more time in the lounge before your flight.

Some things to keep in mind

  1. You cannot make a booking if you are travelling to the United States of America (with an exception of flights via Milan and Athens) or have a medical condition requiring medical assistance or clearance to travel.
  2. If the booking service is unable to deliver your bag to the airport due to unforeseen circumstances, they will send your bag to your final ticketed destination.
  3. All rules and processes must be adhered to, according to airport check-in and Emirates baggage policy.
  4. The booking service has the right to cancel your booking if they are unable to validate the customer collection address or if you are not present at the allotted time. However, they will allow 15 minutes grace period.

I think this is a great option for large families or if you are travelling with many bags. Shopping does not need to be thought of again, and you could perhaps go a little overboard with the bags, not having to worry about lugging them to the airport. We just might try out this service ourselves next time we travel on Emirates.

What do you make of the new Emirates home check in service? Would you sign up for it?
