Emirates flights to resume on April 6, 2020

Late last month, all scheduled commercial flights across the UAE were grounded, on March 25, 2020. Emirates, which had flip-flopped on the decision to ground their fleet earlier, finally grounded the whole fleet along as well on March 25, 2020.

Now, Emirates has secured permission from the UAE Civil Aviation authorities to start operating a limited number of flights from April 6, 2020, onwards. In a Tweet by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who is the chairman of the Emirates Group and also the President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, he announced the decision.

These flights will initially, only serve passengers originating from Dubai and heading to their destination country, and not bring in any passengers at the moment. The schedule is yet to be known, but a lot of flights won’t be starting on day one. A gradual resumption is more like it.

Bottomline

Expect to see some of those 200+ Emirates aircraft getting out of storage and taking to the skies again shortly. However, do not dream of luxurious Emirates flights in the coming days as I fully expect special precautions and reduced service to be in place for a while to come.
