Marriott Introduces New Ways to Earn Points without stays

For most people around the world, there are limited ways to earn Marriott Rewards points without staying at hotels. Marriott has no co-branded credit cards yet in most parts of the world. The best you can usually do is to transfer points to Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest programs from cards such as American Express Gold Charge Card and American Express Platinum Card.

In 2016, Marriott Hotels introduced the Marriott Moments that allowed Marriott, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG members to redeem reward points for a wide array of events and experiences, similar to SPG Moments.

Earn Marriott points when you book sighseeing activities

Now Marriott has introduced new ways that members can earn Marriott points through Marriott Moments when booking experiences in 130+ countries. Members will receive 10 Marriott Rewards points or 3 SPG Starpoints for every dollar spent on Marriott Moments.

I looked through the website and found some great opportunities. For instance, if you are travelling to Paris this summers and would like to take a tour of the Paris’ Gourmet Chocolate Museum (Musée Gourmand du Chocolat) and learn about chocolate making and the evolution. Then you could purchase tickets from Marriott Moments for $14 per person and earn 140 Marriott Rewards points/42 Starpoints.

I also compared the prices with Viator, one of the largest online websites to book tours and experiences and the rates are the same.

You can earn points on some things right from booking Hop-on Hop-off bus tickets to a Moulin Rouge show. There are over 100,000 experiences to choose from.

Here are examples of some experiences on offer

  • Viewing the Northern Lights from the Arctic Circle
  • Moulin Rouge show tickets in Paris
  • London Harry Potter walking tour
  • Dharavi Slum Tour in Mumbai
  • Desert Safari, Quad Ride and Camel ride in Dubai
  • Touring the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey

The best part about this addition to Marriott Moments is that you can earn points without staying at hotels. So, if you are travelling and anyways have plans for sightseeing and tour activities, then it’s definitely worth comparing prices at Marriott Moments and earning extra Marriott Rewards/ Starpoints. For instance, if you book a ticket to Moulin Rouge show, a one-day Paris hop-on-hop-off bus tour and a day trip to Bruges from Paris you’ll end up earning ~5000 Marriott Rewards points per person.

Have you tried booking through Marriott Moments yet? What are your thoughts on this new point earning opportunity?
