The one reason I have been wary of booking Airbnb stays is zero return for my money spent. So far, Airbnb does not have any loyalty program and neither do they have an alliance with a credit card. This is changing now. Airbnb and Qantas have now formed a partnership where Qantas Frequent Flyer members will have the opportunity to book Airbnb stays directly on the Qantas website and in return earn Qantas points on bookings.
Airbnb today lists about 2.5 million accommodation options across 190 countries. Members booking Airbnb stays on Qantas.com will earn one Qantas point for every Australian dollar spent on booking. Qantas presently awards 3 points for every hotel booked via their website. In order to earn Qantas Points, you should visit qantas.com/stay choose the Airbnb option then enter their Frequent Flyer details when prompted. After which you will be redirected to airbnb.com.au to complete your booking.
To celebrate the launch of this partnership Qantas is also giving away a chance to win a fully paid trip for four to San Francisco. The cost of this prize is estimated at AUD 60,000. To get a chance to win all you need to do is book an Airbnb stay through Qantas.com before October 31, 2016 and you will automatically enter the contest.
The prize includes the following:
- Return flights to San Francisco in Qantas Business Class for the winner and three friends
- Access to the Qantas International First Lounge in Sydney for all four
- Complimentary return transfers from San Francisco airport
- AUD 5,000 worth of Airbnb voucher to book five nights’ accommodation in San Francisco at any Airbnb listing
- AUD 4,000 spending money on a Qantas Cash card to spend on the trip
Well I’d say that this is just the beginning for Airbnb to get a pie of the hotel bookings that come through airline websites and Qantas, a one world partner is just the first Airline to form this alliance.
What do you think about earning airline points for Airbnb booking? Would it influence you try an Airbnb stay over a hotel stay?

Elevate points can be used to book on partners – Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia and the redemption rates are great value for domestic US flights and for people from India connecting via Dubai or Singapore to most EK and SQ destinations (economy round trip BOM-DXB-BOM is at 10,000 Elevate miles +taxes)
Aaaaah got my hopes up with this headline 🙁
You can also purchase Airbnb gift cards at Staple, where you can earn 5 Chase Ultimate Reward points per dollar charged on a Chase Ink card. I don’t have the United app. Could these stack together?
You can earn 3 miles per $ using the United MileagePlusX app for Airbnb purchases.
3.75 miles per dollar if using a ChaseUnited credit card.

Based in India, one might have a bit of difficulty using the Qantas miles…
