Dubai Airshow 2025: Etihad orders A330neos, adds to the A350-1000 order as well

Etihad Airways has today announced a firm Airbus aircraft order at the Dubai Airshow 2025, where it has taken on a variety of Airbus widebodies for its fleet.

Etihad orders another 25 wide-body jets from Airbus

Etihad and Airbus today signed a firm order, with the assistance of leasing company Avolon. The airline has now signed a firm order for six A330neos and is committing to nine A330neos from Avolon, which stated it had some early positions that will now be allocated to Etihad. Etihad acted quickly to secure some of the last remaining early widebody delivery positions worldwide, ensuring new aircraft start arriving from 2027, significantly ahead of typical long-haul backlog timelines. The first A330neo is expected to arrive at Etihad in 2027.

A group of five men in suits are at a signing event at the Dubai Airshow. Two of them are seated at a table holding up purchase agreements, while the others stand behind them. The backdrop features the text "Dubai Airshow" and "The future is here" with images of Etihad Airways planes in the sky. A photographer is capturing the moment, and there are model airplanes on the table.

Airbus and Etihad sign on the dotted line for the widebody order

The A330neo is the latest iteration of the A330, featuring enhanced range and better fuel efficiency. The A330-900neo has a range of 7,350 nautical miles and a capacity for 287 passengers in a standard three-class configuration.

Etihad has also disclosed an order for seven additional A350-1000 aircraft, bringing its order for the type to 27 aircraft, and three A350Fs for Etihad Cargo (bringing the order total for the type to 10 frames).

Three Etihad Airways airplanes are flying in formation above the clouds during a sunset. The aircraft are painted in the airline's livery, featuring a geometric design on the tail. The sky is a gradient of warm colors, with the sun casting a golden light on the clouds below.

Etihad Group CEO Antonoaldo Neves said this on the occasion,

These aircraft strengthen our operations across medium-haul, long-haul, and cargo. The A330neo brings the right combination of efficiency and flexibility for our regional and mid-range growth, while the A350-1000 continues to deliver exceptional performance on our long-haul network. The A350F freighter adds significant capability to our cargo division as global demand continues to expand. Our partnership with Airbus continues to play an important role in shaping our future fleet, and we are proud to be building one of the world’s most modern and efficient widebody operations.

This new commitment follows Etihad’s agreement earlier this year for 28 additional Boeing widebody aircraft, bringing the airline’s total new widebody orders for 2025 to 60 across Airbus and Boeing.

The combined order provides Etihad with flexibility across medium-haul, long-haul and cargo:

  • Additional A350-1000s strengthen long-haul capacity
  • A350F freighters expand Etihad Cargo’s growing footprint in global trade flows
  • A330-900s support mid-haul and regional growth during a period of extremely constrained widebody supply

With the new Airbus order, Etihad will operate the entire Airbus wide-body fleet, including the A380, A350 family, including the freighter, and the A330neo.

It will be interesting to observe the growth of the A330neo fleet over time. At this order size, it may seem small, but over time, Etihad might place more orders of this type.

Bottomline

Etihad Airways has placed an Airbus widebody aircraft order. The airline intends to add the A330-900neo to its fleet in 2027. The airline has ordered another seven A350-1000s, bringing that order book to 27 aircraft of the type. There are three A350F, also a part of the order.
