Reminder: 30% Bonus on converting Bank/Hotel points to Avios (with Qatar Airways)

Qatar Airways recently transitioned from QMiles to Avios as its currency, the same as British Airways and Iberia used as a part of their loyalty programmes. Now, they are offering a great bonus opportunity for those who transfer their points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, which can also be helpful for those collecting the British Airways variant (since the Avios can be moved around in both directions).

Transfer Bank and Hotel points to QR Privilege Club with up to 30% Bonus

Between November 1-15, 2022, Qatar Airways Privilege Club is offering a tiered bonus when you convert bank points into Avios (in your Privilege Club account). The tiered bonus is as follows:

  • Convert the equivalent of up to 30,000 Avios and receive a 20% bonus
  • Convert the equivalent of over 30,000 Avios and receive a 30% bonus

The transfer partners included in the conversion bonus are:

  • Ahli Bank Oman
  • Ahli Bank Qatar
  • Ahli United Bank
  • Air Miles
  • Axis Bank [India]
  • Banque Saudi Fransi
  • Cathay United Bank
  • CBQ
  • CIMB
  • Citibank [India included]
  • Commonwealth Bank of Australia
  • Doha Bank
  • Dukhan Bank
  • Emirates Islamic Bank
  • Hana
  • HSBC (Hong Kong, Mexico, Taiwan and USA)
  • Hyundai Card
  • Kasikorn Bank
  • Kuwait Finance House
  • Mashreq
  • Masraf Al Rayan
  • Oman Arab Bank
  • Ping An
  • Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB)
  • QIB
  • QNB
  • Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore)
  • ALL – Accor Live Limitless
  • Centara Hotels & Resorts
  • Fliggy
  • Hyatt Hotels
  • Shangri-La Circle
  • Ooredoo (Qatar)

Of these, for our Indian audience, the ones of note would be Axis and Citi Reward Points. American Express has been skipped in this round of the transfer bonuses. Also, Marriott Bonvoy is not included in the transfer conversion, and I would advise people against converting their Hyatt points into miles, given how hard they are to come by.

  • Citi Prestige Points transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 1 point = 4 Avios
  • Citi PremierMiles transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 2 PremierMiles = 1 Avios
  • Axis Bank HNI cards transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 5 EDGE Points = 4 Avios
  • Axis Bank Atlas Credit card transfers to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 1 EDGE Point = 2 Avios
  • Axis Bank Affluent cards transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 10 EDGE Points = 1 Avios
  • Other Axis Bank Credit Cards transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 20 EDGE Points = 1 Avios

Do note that the bonus is offered by Qatar Airways, and it will take up to December 15, 2022, for the bonus points to be posted to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club Account. The bonus is calculated on a per-transaction basis, so you receive a 20% or 30% bonus based on how many points you transfer in one transaction rather than cumulatively.

You can then connect your Qatar Airways and British Airways loyalty accounts, which will enable you to move around Avios from BA to QR and vice versa.

You can use this offer to indirectly convert Axis/Citi points to BA Avios, with a 30% bonus as well. There is also a second promotion, where Qatar Airways is also offering a 10-12% discount on future bookings. Depending on when you convert, a confirmation email will be sent to qualified members eligible for up to 12% off on flights with Qatar Airways post credit of Avios with a promo code valid for bookings on all Qatar Airways-operated itineraries worldwide within the specified booking & travel period.

Bottomline

Qatar Airways Privilege Club is offering a 30% bonus when you convert bank/hotel points into Qatar Airways Avios. You can subsequently convert them to BA Avios as well using the transfer feature. This is an excellent opportunity for those with Citi/Axis Bank points and more so for those who are looking for an exit from their Citi Credit Cards after the impending departure of Citi from India.

  1. Can some value chart be given?
How many points for what destinations?

Also if you could throw some light on the qatar+ba avios miles program… How exactly does it work?
Are the qatar avios points exactly same, and get same value. Or ba avios has better value compared to qatar avios?

When we ask Citi to convert points is it auto avios or qatar miles? How do I ensure conversion happens into avios n not qatar points

    Looking forward to hearing

  2. Hi Ajay. Last time when qatar airways had come out with a similar offer. I transferred my citi prestige points to qatar Miles with 30% bonus. Unfortunately my 130k mikes are of no use till the time Qatar airways don’t release award tickets . Either there is no business class award seats available or are only available at Q2 miles . So what’s the point of giving out bonus miles .
