Get 50% Extra Miles on conversion of Citi points to Turkish Miles & Smiles

Turkish Airlines’ loyalty programme has announced a new conversion bonus, which could be profitable if you consider flying Turkish Airlines or engaging with their Miles & Smiles programme to redeem on other Star Alliance carriers in the coming days. The airline is offering a 50% conversion bonus for Citibank customers.

Turkish Airlines 50% More Transfer Bonus

Between May 15 and June 15, 2024, Turkish Airlines is offering a straight 50% Bonus when you convert your Citi reward points into Turkish Miles & Smiles miles.

The promotion is offering an additional 50% miles to Miles & Smiles members who convert their points to miles (from Citi). It is important to note that the T&C states the conversion to be only of “Thank You” Points, which is indicative of US Citi points, but I did a small test transaction, and even Indian Citi Credit Card points are transferring as if they were from Citi USA. Here is an excerpt from the miles account statement.

The 50% Bonus is limited to a maximum of 50,000 miles, which means if you convert in enough Citi points to reflect 100,000 miles, you get the maximum bonus. Also, these miles will be posted from the end of Turkish Airlines, not instantly, but after the promotion is over, which means on or after June 15, 2024.

Turkish Airlines overhauled its award chart a few months ago, so you should be aware that it is not all great news, but there are good value that exist on domestic sectors. India to the US (East Coast) now costs 80K in Economy and 185K in Business Class, but that should still be a bargain with the 50% bonus.

From an Indian perspective, then, if you were an existing Citi customer holding the PremierMiles or Prestige card, or some of the other Citi cards, you would be able to convert your reward points to Turkish Miles & Smiles and get a 50% Bonus (up to a maximum of 50,000 miles). The conversion is at the following ratio (including the bonuses):

  • Citi Premiermiles: 2 PremierMiles: 1.5 Miles (instead of 1 Mile)
  • Citi Rewards: 1 Point: 1.125 Miles (instead of 0.75 Mile)
  • IndianOil Citi Card: 1 Point: 1.125 Miles (instead of 0.75 Mile)
  • Citi Prestige: 1 Point: 6 Miles (instead of the usual 4 Miles)
  • Citi Corporate Card: 2 Points: 1.98 Miles (instead of the usual 1.32 Miles)

Bottomline

Turkish Airlines is offering a 50% bonus on converting Citi points to Turkish Miles & Smiles miles. This is a great opportunity to receive an upside on the conversion you might have made, with the further ability to use them for flights on Turkish Airlines, Air India or other Star Alliance carriers. Also, this is a great opportunity to move some of your Citi points out if you are fidgety about the future of these on the Axis Bank platform.

What do you think of this 50% transfer bonus? Will you participate?

  2. Hey thanks for the timely update.
Any idea how much time will it take to transfer from Citi prestige India to Turkish?

    Thanks
