Citibank has launched a new promotion on a couple of their credit card products, Citi PremierMiles and Citi Rewards, offering cardmembers bonus credit card points on a promotional basis until August 2021 for online shopping at select websites. Here are the details of the Citi Rewards and the Citi PremierMiles Promotion.
Citi Rewards Credit Card offering up to 14x points on Online Shopping
The Citi Rewards Credit Card offers one reward point on every INR 125 spent, with the reward point being worth anywhere between INR 0.25 to INR 0.35 on redemption, depending on how you choose to redeem it. No reward points are earned on the following categories: Transportation & Tolls, Utilities, Insurance, Educational Institutions and Government Institutions.
Additionally, for Apparel and Department Stores (such as DMart, Big Bazaar and so on), Citi Rewards Credit Card offers 10X Rewards for the first INR 7,000 spent every month. The maximum bonus you can earn is 504 points per statement month(9X or INR 7000/125).
Citibank Rewards Credit Card is offering a new 4x bonus reward points on spending at e-commerce merchants, namely Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra, for spending up to INR 10,000 per statement month. As a part of this offer, Citi will offer up to 320 bonus points. This promotional classification is valid between February 15 and August 15, 2021.
But here is the part which makes it very interesting if you look at it closely. All these three e-commerce merchants are classified under the Apparel and Departmental Stores classification, which means, for the first INR 7,000 spent, you could potentially earn up to 14X points. Let’s say you pay INR 2,000 on the first day of the month to Amazon India to stock up groceries:
- 1x Rewards for regular spends: 16 Reward Points
- 9X Rewards for spending under the Apparel and Departmental Stores category: 144 Reward Points
- 4X Rewards for spending under e-commerce spends category: 64 Reward Points
- Total: 224 Reward Points (14x Reward Points)
Besides all of this, you also get another 300 bonus Reward Points if you spend at least INR 30,000 per statement month.
You can apply for the Citi Rewards Card for free here and receive an INR 1,000 Amazon Voucher on an approved credit card. The approvals are being done via video KYC these days, so pretty quick.
Citi PremierMiles Credit Card offers 2x points on Online Shopping.
The Citi PremierMiles Credit Card offers 4 PremierMiles on every INR 100 spent, with the reward point being worth INR 0.45 on redemption. No reward points are earned on the following categories: Transportation & Tolls, Utilities, Insurance, Educational Institutions and Government Institutions.
Additionally, for Airline spends, Citi PremierMiles Credit Card offers 10 PremierMiles for INR 100 spent. Citi PremierMiles Credit Card is offering new 2x bonus PremierMiles (8 PremierMiles/INR 100 spent) on spending at e-commerce merchants, namely Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra, for spends up to INR 40,000 per statement month. As a part of this offer, Citi will offer up to 1600 bonus points per statement month. This promotion is valid between February 15 and August 15, 2021.
Again, let’s say you spend INR 2,000 on the first day of the month on Amazon India to stock up groceries and pay with your Citi PremierMiles Credit Card:
- 1x Rewards for regular spends: 80 PremierMiles
- 1X Rewards for spending under e-commerce spends category: 80 PremierMiles

Bottomline
Citibank has created new category bonuses on the Citi Rewards and Citi PremierMiles for e-commerce shopping, as people sit and shop from home and are not flying as much as they usually would. The bonuses, which go all the way up to 14X of the usual points, will be available till August 15, 2021, for the moment.
This is a good update for the Citibank PremierMiles Credit Card, which focuses on travel, and people are not travelling at the moment. What do you make of these updates on the two cards?
