Hyatt is one of my preferred hotel chains because they have some beautiful hotels across the world. They’ve just opened a stunning resort in Kerala, the Grand Hyatt Kochi, Bolgatty.

There are some very good redemptions out there for some aspirational properties that have a high rack rate but require a fixed number of points of reward nights. We spent New Years 2017 in Sydney, Australia and used our points to stay at The Park Hyatt Sydney where we had a room with a view of the Opera House. The standard rooms here during December holiday season is priced at always priced at $ 1300/ INR 90,000. This is a Hyatt Category 7 hotel and for 30,000 points a night we got a great value of INR 3 per point. Buying 30,000 points at a full 40% bonus under this offer will only cost you USD 510/ INR 32,800 and that’s a super value redemption choice at some of the best Hyatt hotels around the world like the Park Hyatt Tokyo and the Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome.

Let’s take a look whether buying points make sense for redemptions in India. The Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa is priced at an average of USD 290/ INR 19,000 in the December holiday period. This is a category 4 hotel where a reward night will cost 15,000 World of Hyatt points. Buying 15,000 points in this sale will cost you USD 264/ INR 17,500. That means you’ll save about USD 22 or 1,500 Indian rupees on a night’s reward stay in the peak period. That does not even account for the fact that you don’t need to pay 28% GST for the stay when paying cash, which won’t be the case with a redemption stay.

Bottomline

Like all point purchase promotions, I think it’s best to crunch the numbers before you decide to stack points. If you need additional points for a particular redemption or are planning a vacation to one those aspirational Hyatt hotels like the Park Hyatt Maldives then this is a great offer to make use of. Keep in mind if you live in India, the only way today to get Hyatt points without stays is through buying them.

We have used our Hyatt points at some amazing Hyatt hotels worldwide. To name a few, The Park Hyatt Maldives, Andaz West Hollywood, L.A. Park Hyatt Washington, Park Hyatt Sydney and at the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok.

  1. Hi Shipra and Ajay,

Will I get 10x rp on my Diners Black with this purchase under international transaction category?

  2. Hi. How’s the availability like with point purchase ? We are planning trip to LA and would b interested in knowing how I can check room availability with points ?

    • Hi Aman, it’s fairly easy to checkpoints availability for Hyatt hotels. All you have to do is select your preferred hotel and then click on show World of Hyatt Points & Awards. It will show whether points nights are open for those dates or not.
      Hope this helps.

  3. I’m planning a trip to Japan in the fall and I’d like to stay for a few nights at the Andaz Tokyo and one of the premier Hyatts in Kyoto. Realistically, I can only accumulate about 90k points through minimum spend, so this seems be the way to supplement that. Am I reading this correctly? I only ask because this would be my first hotel redemption; I usually find cheaper lodging through airbnb and the like. TIA.

    • Hi Charles, the max points you can stack through this promotion is 77k. Are you looking at adding up a total of 90k points to your WoH account?

      • Makes, me wonder, if we are multiple people travelling together, we can surely make multiple accounts, with account in every ones name and maximise the offer, if rooms are available.
