Jet Airways’ shut down all operations from April 17, 2019, creating a void on domestic and international sectors, as they were one of the largest Indian carriers for international capacity. A lot of routes, especially Mumbai/Delhi to London Heathrow and Mumbai/Delhi/Bangalore to Amsterdam were badly affected.

Air France and KLM are trying their best to minimise the inconvenience caused to passengers as they had a metal neutral pact with Jet Airways for flights from Amsterdam and Paris. KLM is up-gauging a few flights to 777s instead of 787-9. Air France is operating additional flights (AF 4142) on Mumbai – Paris sector, apart from the daily AF 217/218.

Air India, meanwhile, is exploring the possibility to lease Jet Airways 777-300ER and operate them on Jet Airways’ international routes which have lost significant capacity. Air India is also offering tickets at lower fares for passengers who are stranded abroad by Jet Airways temporary suspension.

British Airways is the largest carrier for India – UK flights. Currently, British Airways operates 2x daily flights from London Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai and daily flights from London Heathrow to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. British Airways, will now add an extra 4x weekly rotation on the Mumbai – London Heathrow route.

From June 2, 2019, British Airways will operate 18x weekly flights on Mumbai-London Heathrow route. The schedule for the new flight is,

British Airways will deploy a premium heavy 787-9 on this route. The rest of the two frequencies on the Mumbai – London route are operated by a mix of 787-9 and 772, both featuring first class.

British Airways and Vistara have a codeshare agreement in place. We have seen Vistara temporarily add many new flights from Mumbai using Jet Airways slots which were transferred on a temporary basis.
