Breaking: Jet Airways American Express Platinum card launched

The news I’ve been waiting for. Like you know, Jet Airways parted way with Citibank for their decade old co-branded credit card and tied up with three partners instead: HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and American Express. I’d talked about the imminent launch of this product last month.

HDFC Bank went first with releasing their product, and ICICI Bank went next. These have been in the market for a while now. American Express seemed to take some time, since they had to first disengage with the Kingfisher co-branded credit card they already had in operation to launch the new product with Jet Airways co-branding. Anyways, all the hard work is behind us and the new credit card has now been launched. And it seems it is worth the wait.

Here are some of the details I have at the moment:

  • It will be a Jet Airways American Express Platinum Credit Card with an rate of 6 JPMiles for every Rs.100.
  • Cardmembers get 20,000 JPMiles and a complimentary one-way base fee waiver domestic ticket on the very first charge on the Card
  • 10,000 extra JPMiles for applying before December 25, 2012
  • 5,000 JP Miles on renewal
  • American Express’ renowned Platinum Service including 24X7 Platinum Concierge for assistance with personal services
  • Complimentary American Express lounge access in Delhi and Mumbai, Priority Pass Membership, and assistance with Visa requirements
  • A 5% discount on base fare for ticket made on www.jetairways.com and www.jetkonnect.com
  • A 25% base fare discount on one domestic business class companion ticket for the first year

While I do not have pricing details yet, I am guessing this would be a compelling Rs. 5,000 sign on fees to start with. Or, a Rs. 10,000 fee to sign-on, and Rs. 5,000 fee for the annual fees. Annual fee for this card is going to be Rs. 10,000 per annum.

This changes the game, again for mileage earners who like their JetPrivilege miles.

  1. Hi,

Forgot to thank you in the previous post.

Reading the blogposts, I must say they are really informative & provide a lot of awareness.

Earning miles to save the travel spends – love the theme of the blog.

    Thanks,

    Vineet

  2. Hi,

Just chanced upon this blog while I was travelling a week back from Delhi to Bangalore. Coincidentally, i also chanced upon a canopy put by American Express for the Jet Airways cobranded card at T3 airport afterwards.

After reading your blogpost about Mileage Earning credit cards, the point you make about using credit cards which give you miles, I am tempted to order one.

However, seeing the different choices available like AMEX Jet Airways, ICICI Jet Airways, HDFC Jet Airways etc., I am unable to arrive at conclusion.

Please guide before I order one.

  3. I was one of the early applicants,in fact I mangaged to apply on the very next day the card was announced, and am still waiting for it.I have been informed by their Customer care that even the first batch of cards have not yet been despatched and it may be at least a week from today that the cards get on their way.The welcome gift of 30K miles+base fare waiver+companion discount on J Class is only available if you pay the Rs 10 k,regardless of you being a platinum member.Since I am Platinum ,I specifically asked this question.

In any case the 30k miles after paying Rs 10k- Rs 1500[base fare waiver] is a great deal.

BEST THING ABOUT AMEX IS THE RECENTLY INTRODUCED SMS PIN SENT EACH TIME TO YOUR MOBILE AUTHORIZING YOUR ONLINE TRANSACTION.This beats the Self made internet password on VISA and MC which you have to remember and also change often to prevent misuse.I have been a major victim recently with my VISA CARD,so I really appreciate the AMEX invention.

  4. @AJ My travel on Jet is very infrequent. Many 2-3 times in an year. Bulk of my travel happens on LCC. I do hold a Silver Tier with Jet and currently have 33k miles with them. On the face of it 33 paise offer looks good but just wanted opinion from a pro 🙂

    • @Manish, that is why I said if the price point suited you or not. Miles from whatever sources are good for travel the same… so, I try and get as many as I can 😉 33 paise is darn cheap I say!

  5. @AJ Are there any conditions on the complimentary one-way base fee waiver? Is it same as utilizing 8400 miles on jetair website and paying approx. 1200 for the taxes.

  6. Hey AJ,

I had applied for and got HDFC Bank World Card and ICICI Bank Sapphiro Card (VISA and AMEX). I also have a Citibank Premiermiles Platinum Card.

Do you suggest I should go for AMEX Jet Platinum card?

The benefits for all the cards seem similar except for AMEX, which offers Lounge access to its Platinum lounges in Mumbai and Delhi.

Does it make sense spending Rs. 10000 + ST for AMEX card even though they are giving 20000 JP miles as signing bonus as well as 1000 JP miles for signing up in one month?

As i see, the baggage benefits and most other things are almost the same.

You liked ICICI card over HDFC even though it had a cap on miles earned. What do you suggest now?

    • @goyal, that is purely your call to apply or not. spending 10k is on the higher side I agree, but just look at it as getting to buy JP miles at 33 paise per mile instead of 1.4 rs. If you want the currency, between the 3 cards, you already have 1 award Y RT ticket to europe waiting (55k sign up miles)

  7. Just got a confirmation from Amex that its 2x miles if used on the jetairways website. Also, there is no limit to using the Amex lounges for the primary card holders. Their guests will be charged at 750+taxes per visit.

  8. While the product is a great one..am surprised at the earn rate of 6 jp miles per Rs 100..when ICICI Sapphiro’s Amex variant has an earn rate of 7 JP miles per 100.
Surely when Amex is the issuer as well as the payment network..it could have gone for a better earn rate
