Bengaluru repeals requirement for [all] international arrivals to be tested for Covid-19 on arrival

On November 30, 2021, Karnataka mandated that all international arrivals in the state be tested for Covid-19 on arrival. This guideline was intended to be a failsafe over and above the health guidelines from the Indian Government, which mandated testing of people from specific geographies. However, as it turned out, with one testing vendor on the ground, this quickly became a problem with people waiting over 6 hours to get their reports.

Karnataka has now scaled down the requirements for testing on arrival

As per a new order issued last night, Karnataka has now downgraded the requirements to align with the Central Government’s requirements. The new order issued says,

As per the revised protocol, travellers from certain specified countries (based on the evolving epidemiological situation) should follow the additional measures.

For reference, here are the current notified at-risk countries as per India on November 30, 2021:

    1. Countries in Europe, including The United Kingdom
    2. South Africa
    3. Brazil
    4. Botswana
    5. China
    6. Mauritius
    7. New Zealand
    8. Zimbabwe
    9. Singapore
    10. Hong Kong
    11. Israel

Here is the entire order for your reference.

Bottomline

If you arrive in Karnataka, passengers from the abovementioned origin countries on the list will be tested rather than all countries.
