Asiana Airlines, the South Korean carrier, which is also a member of the Star Alliance, has been in the throes of financial difficulties. At the moment, an ongoing business review is leading them to take a lot of difficult decisions to survive.
In April 2019, Asiana had announced a plan to cut its fleet and routes. Flights to destinations in Russia will be cut in July., and Chicago would go away in October. Earlier in May 2019, the airline announced an unpaid leave programme for employees and followed it up with the announcement of an early retirement offer to employees with more than 15 years of continuous service. Then, earlier this week, the airline rebranded their First Class seats to Business Suite seats, which is some sort of a Business+ configuration.
Today, Asiana has closed reservations for the Seoul Incheon – Delhi route, which they currently operate 5 times a week with an Airbus A330-300. Here is the flight schedule.
OZ767 ICN1800 – 2330DEL 333 x15
OZ768 DEL0050 – 1125ICN 333 145
OZ768 DEL0050 – 1050CN 333 37
There is a pop-up on the website of Asiana announcing route closure.
Delhi is Asiana’s only operating out of India, and the airline exiting this route is going to mean a total exit from India. If you have a ticket to head to Korea or onwards after this date, contact the airline to get accommodated on another carrier. The closure for Delhi will happen on the same day as the airline cuts flights to two Russian destinations in Sakhalin and Khabarovsk.
Have you flown on Asiana Delhi to Seoul flight? What was your experience?
Dang. It was a fairly easy redemption using Avianca LMs … Sorry to see them go!
