The following cards offer the ability to transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy:

With the 25,000 bonus cap, this promotion can be utilised for 250,000 points conversion at best.

Amex to Marriott Transfer Bonus Terms & Conditions

Membership Rewards point transfers must be made in increments of 100 points. At the regular redemption rate, 1,000 Membership Rewards Points = 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points. A maximum of 900,000 Membership Rewards Points per account can be transferred per calendar year (January to December). Remember, once you transfer out the points to Marriott Bonvoy, you can’t move them back into your Membership Rewards account under any circumstances. The bonus points will be added to your account instantaneously as well.

Should you transfer?

The Amex to Marriott Transfer Bonus is one of the lowest in India over the past few years. We have seen a 50% and a 30% bonus back in the day, but perhaps one of the best ones you will receive in the coming days. American Express has announced many transfer bonuses in the US, but this is the only one in India. If you have been on the fence for getting one, you could look at accumulating points on a new American Express Platinum Card.

What good are Marriott Bonvoy’s points?

Marriott Bonvoy points are good for stays in many Marriott properties, aspirational, and in the city. I wrote a significant analysis of how you could use your American Express points to Marriott Bonvoy for travel. However, with the now live Marriott Bonvoy dynamic pricing, the opportunities may change depending on the time of the year you want to go where you want to go.

One way to get more value from your Marriott points is by taking advantage of the fifth night free on award stays.

Bottomline

This is a good promotion, and if you plan to stay at a Marriott hotel in the coming months, transferring some Membership Rewards points over to Marriott now makes sense. Amex has limited the promotion only to the Platinum and Centurion Card. I will also participate in this promotion, but only in April, and I will let you know about my experience when I can.

What do you make of the Amex to Marriott Transfer Bonus? Will you be able to use it?

  1. Lol! People were getting the Amex plat upgrade with 130K or 150K and expecting 30% transfer bonus in Marriot. Amex was ready with smart move.

    • @Sabyasachi, Amex has had a change of management and the new management has a different focus compared to the old one. Also, times have changed. The 50-30% bonuses are not a product feature, and perhaps Amex pays for them out of pocket, so they are just containing their OPE.
