American Express has been expanding the ambit of card acceptance over time in India. After a successful 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 with the Amex Insurance Payment offer, American Express has a new one on offer for 2023. Here are the details of the Amex Insurance Offer for those payments coming up towards insurance this quarter.
Amex Insurance Offer: 5 Membership Rewards Points for every INR 100 spent
To promote their reach in the insurance segment, there is a new Amex Insurance Offer, offering bonus Membership Rewards points for paying Insurance expenses on their proprietary Charge Cards and Credit Cards between December 22, 2022, and March 31, 2023. One earns 5 Membership Rewards points per INR 100 spent on insurance with this promotion.
The promotion is targetted and wants cardmembers to enrol for the offer before making the payment. The interesting part is that Amex does not offer Membership Rewards points for insurance spending since 2014, but they will offer it this quarter. The minimum spend is 100 INR to get the offer. The following cards are being targetted:
- American Express Platinum Card
- American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
- American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card (Currently Free)
- American Express Gold Card
- American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card (Currently Free)
- American Express SmartEarn Credit Card
The maximum spending for the cards which earn 5 MR/INR 100, and hence this promotion is capped at INR 200,000 Insurance Premium payments for all the cards listed above. If you do not have one of these cards, you can always apply for it now and receive it in a week or so if eligible. Here is how to get the cards free.
Membership Rewards points are being given as a bonus under this offer, and you will not earn any regular points. After the offer ends, Cardmembers will stop getting any Membership Rewards Points on Insurance spending. The Bonus Membership Rewards Points will get credited to Cardmember’s account by July 31, 2023.
Only eligible transactions going through merchant platforms will be eligible for Membership Rewards Points. Transactions going through an aggregator (like Paypal, Paytm, PayU etc.) may not trigger Membership Rewards Points since it entirely depends upon how a merchant submits its transactions to American Express.
Bottomline
It is fantastic when you can earn miles for stuff you are already going to have to do, such as paying insurance. But when you get points for doing that, it is all the more reason to do so. Amex is out there to get members to use their cards for more categories this year, which seems just the start.

Any Recommendations for paying ICICI PruLife – Their own website does not accept AMEX. Does paying through Amazon / Paytm code in as Insurence spends ?
