Amex Insurance Offer: 15X Membership Rewards points

American Express has been expanding the ambit of the card acceptance over time in India. After a successful run in 2020, they have started the year 2021 with a bang. After perhaps a successful 2019 and 2020 with the Amex Insurance Payment offer, American Express has another one on offer for 2021. Here are the details of the Amex Insurance Offer for those payments coming up towards insurance this quarter.

Amex Insurance Offer

Amex Insurance Offer: 15X Membership Rewards Points

To promote their reach in the insurance segment, there is a new Amex Insurance Offer, offering bonus Membership Rewards points for paying Insurance expenses on their proprietary Credit Cards and proprietary Charge Cards between December 24, 2020, and March 31, 2021. One earns 15 Membership Rewards points per INR 100 spent on insurance with this promotion.

Only the following cards, issued in India, are eligible for this offer:

The promotion seems to be targetted and wants cardmembers to enrol for the offer before making the payment. The interesting part is that Amex does not offer Membership Rewards points for insurance spending since 2014, but they will offer it this quarter. The minimum spend is 100 INR to get the offer.

The maximum spends for the cards which earn 15 MR/INR 100 and hence this promotion seems to be capped at INR 33,333 Insurance Premium payments for all the cards listed above, except for the Platinum Charge Cards, which is capped at INR 50,000.

Membership Rewards points are being given under this offer and will not earn any regular points. After the offer ends, Cardmembers will stop getting any Membership Rewards Points on Insurance spends. The Bonus Membership Rewards Points will get credited to Cardmember’s account by June 30, 2021.

Only eligible transactions going through merchant platforms will be eligible for Membership Rewards Points. Transactions going through an aggregator (like Paypal, Paytm, PayU etc.) may not trigger Membership Rewards Points since it entirely depends upon how a merchant submits its transactions to American Express.

Bottomline

It is fantastic when you can earn miles for stuff you are already going to have to do, such as paying insurance. But when you get 15X points to do that, it is all the more reason to do so. Amex is out there to get members to use their cards for more categories this year, which seems just the start.

Which American Express Card are you going to use this quarter to pay for your insurance?
