Amex Double Points on Platinum Credit Cards through May 2020. Register Now!

American Express has launched a new promotion to promote online spends on the Platinum Credit Cards of American Express and help them ride out the CoVid-19 crisis. An earlier promotion launched by American Express offered double Amex Membership Rewards Points to all American Express Platinum Cardmembers. This time around, double points for all the American Express Platinum Credit Cardmembers.

Amex Double Points Platinum

The new promotion offers you double points earning for online spends through May 2020, to a maximum of 1000 Membership Rewards Points. To receive double points, your minimum spends on one card need to be at least INR 10,000 on the whole (online). The promotion is valid for American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card, American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card and Jet Airways American Express Platinum Credit Card members.

Here is how many points & miles that can be earned:

  • American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Cardmembers and American Express Platinum Travel Credit Cardmembers get 2 Membership Rewards points/INR 50 spent.
  • Jet Airways American Express Platinum Credit Cardmembers get 16 InterMiles/INR 150 spent instead of 8 InterMiles/INR 150.

The cumulative monthly online spend includes all transactions by the Cardmember made online in a calendar month including spend on Insurance, Utilities and EMI conversion at Point of Sale. The Cardmember must enrol for the offer. Only in case of enrollment and subsequent qualification basis transactions, the Cardmember will receive the Bonus Membership Rewards points or Bonus InterMiles.

Online spend means only those spends which are incurred through online platforms or merchants. Transactions done in physical environment/in-store transactions will not be included. Online spends (net of cashback and reversals) on the enrolled Card from May 1 to May 31, 2020, will be eligible under the offer.

Only eligible transactions going through merchant platforms will be eligible for bonus Membership Rewards points/InterMiles. Transactions going through an aggregator (like Paypal, Paytm, PayU etc.) may not trigger Membership Rewards points since it entirely depends upon how a merchant submits its transactions to American Express. Transactions made in foreign currencies will not be eligible for bonus Membership Rewards points/InterMiles under the offer.

Bottomline

This is a good, targetted promotion, from American Express, trying to add value to their Platinum Credit Cardmembers while they are home and start spending on their American Express Platinum Credit Cards. As we have the American Express Platinum Charge Cards, however, we will be spending on that card for the double points on all spends.

What do you think of this new effort from American Express aimed at their Platinum Credit Cardmembers?
