Last year, American Express hit out on a novel concept to reach out to the Indian spenders. They gave them gold to spend. They actually gave out about INR 20,000 worth of vouchers to spenders in a very tiered fashion. I did not write about it because somehow I missed the memo, but it turns out I managed to get 20,000 worth of gold home for doing what I was anyways doing.
Now, American Express has returned with a new version of that promotion for this year’s festive season. The following cards qualify:
- The American Express Gold Card
- The American Express Platinum Card
- The American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
- The American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card
This year, Amex is offering INR 12,500 worth of vouchers for those who will sign up for this promotion. The link to sign up is here. Travel is counted out of eligible spends. For INR 90K spend, you get INR 5K worth of vouchers from Tanishq or another leading jeweller (5.5% back). For INR 250K spend, one gets INR 12,500 worth of vouchers, which is a RoI of 5%.
Here are the details:
- You need to have a proprietary Amex Card, so co-branded cards such as Jet Airways cards are counted out.
- Cardmembers have to enrol the Card and spend a total of Rs. 90,000 or more during the Offer period on their American Express® Card (including the spend on their Supplementary Card(s)) and get a Gold voucher worth Rs. 5,000.
- Alternatively, Cardmembers have to enrol the Card and spend a total of Rs. 2,50,000 or more during the Offer period on their American Express® Card (including the spend on their Supplementary Card(s)) and get a Gold voucher worth Rs. 12,500.
- It is mandatory for the Cardmembers to enrol for the Offer. Only in case of enrollment and subsequent qualification basis eligible spends, the Cardmember will receive the voucher.
- This Offer is valid from 20th September 2017 to 20th October 2017 (both days inclusive)
Bottomline
If you have some big spends coming up, this could be a good promotion to look up to get another 5% out of your spends. However, don’t go out of your way to put everything here to get 5K worth of jewellery vouchers.
Is a bigger purchase necessary to spend these vouchers?
I’m guessing a purchase of 5K minimum, yes.
