One of the most useful point redemption options for the American Express Gold Card and Gold Charge Cardmembers is the American Express Gold Collection, which allows for a higher value on points redemption compared to the INR 0.25 when one can directly adjust points for a statement credit.

Changes to the American Express Gold Collection

The American Express Gold Collection offers two redemption catalogues, one for 18,000 Membership Rewards points and another for 24,000 Membership Rewards Points. The collection is provided to the American Express Gold Card and American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card members. The catalogue was last changed in 2022, and now American Express has tinkered with the options and the value of the options offered. The changes have been rolled out and are effective March 1, 2024.

Amongst the 18K Collection options, the shopping vouchers have all been reduced in value by 1,000 INR each, and two new options, TataCliq and Reliance Digital, have been added. Overall, there is a 13-14% erosion in the value of the points where applicable, but it is still higher than the 0.25 INR value that American Express wants to portray.

Ultimately, this is how the 18K Collection looks now.  

Amongst the 24K Collection options, the shopping vouchers have all been reduced in value by 1,000 INR each, and two new options, TataCliq and Reliance Digital, have been added. Overall, there is a 9-11% erosion in the value of the points where applicable, but it is still higher than the 0.25 INR value that American Express wants to portray.

As you can note, the new options added are Tata Cliq and Reliance Digital, while Vistara gift cards were closed out to members in late 2023. Big Basket and Croma were similarly taken out of the mix at some point.

Bottomline

Ultimately, American Express has added some new options to the Gold Card collection, which are available effective immediately and cover a wide variety of options for customers interested in redeeming their Membership Rewards points for vouchers. However, the hand that giveth also taketh away, and American Express has brought down the value of the existing voucher options.
