American Express is trying to step up their product offering in India after a very very long time (say 5 years!). In 2012, they came up with the American Express Jet Airways co-branded credit card, which has been in my wallet since, and now they are adding some serious muscle to their existing offerings.
American Express cards did not offer much of Lounge access in India, apart from access to the Mumbai and Delhi Platinum lounge, that too, not for everyone, only Platinum and Centurion Card holders, and Jet Platinum Credit Card holders without any guests. Of course, Platinum Card holders and Centurion Card holders get Priority Passes as well, but this did not have the convenience of having a visit to a lounge just by presenting your card.
Since early March, American Express has however changed that. They’ve added 7 new lounges across various cities in India, with complimentary access for Amex Platinum/Centurion card holders and their supplementary card holders, and INR 500 charges for other American Express cards.
Like the terms note, this arrangement is valid for Amex cards issued in India. However, at the lounge in Delhi, I’ve noticed that they welcome some other Amex’s as well, so it may well worth be checking out.

AJ, any idea on the minimum income criteria for the Amex Platinum Charge card? The gold one has 8 lakhs in annual income criteria.
@arghya Inr 30 Lakhs per annum or so
I believe Plaza Premium was already accepting complimentary access to AmEx for cards issued in Hong Kong belt. Was really wondering on why AmEx has minimum lounge access inspite of being niche
@Prateek, how do you mean niche?
i wish to apply for an amex card, this question for all, if you are in my place out of Amex jet & platinum card which one you will prefer?
Hi AJ.. silly question. Here Platinum means all Platinum cards holders(i.e. Amex Jet Airways Platinum CC)will have free access in 7 new lounges ? or is it Amex Platinum Card (highest one) only. What about add-on card holders of Amex Jet CC ? Will they have free access to these lounges?
Also, I noticed that Amex has significantly reduced the Income requirements for Amex Jet and Amex Platinum Reserve card to 6 lakhs pa. Earlier it was 10lakhs for Jet Card and 15lakhs for Platinum Reserve.
@Gaurav Platinum Card means only the American Express Platinum Charge card. Amex Jet card holders will pay INR 500 and also their add-on card holders.
